Please note the following regarding the Hospitality Studies uniform and the Functions Policy.

13.4Hospitality Studies Uniform (Grade 10 - 12)

13.4.1 Uniform for the restaurant:

Boy learners

  • Smart black pants (no jeans).
  • White long sleeved shirt in winter, short sleeved in summer.
  • Black waistcoat.
  • Black bow tie.
  • School shoes (no platform shoes).
  • Black socks.
  • Hotel jersey for winter, no other jacket or jersey will be allowed.

Girl learners

  • Smart black pencil skirt (knee length) or smart black pants

(no tights/bell bottoms/jeans).

  • White school shirt (shirt should be hip length, with buttons in front as well as have a collar).
  • Black waistcoat
  • Flesh coloured stockings / Blackmail.
  • Comfortable black court shoes (no open heels) or school shoes with points.
  • Hotel jersey in winter.
  • Black suit jacket if the same material as skirt/pants.

13.4.2 Necessities for restaurant service

  • Black/blue pen that writes clearly.
  • Corkscrew (Waiters friend).
  • Calculator
  • Clean dishcloths
  • Lighter

13.4.3 Uniform for kitchen functions

  • White chefs jacket
  • White chefs hat (mushroom shape, material)
  • White chefs apron (half)
  • Blue and white chefs pants
  • Takkies
  • 2 cloths
  • Oven gloves

13.4.4 Uniform for the kitchen - practical periods during school time

  • White chefs jacket
  • White chefs hat (mushroom shape, material)
  • White chefs apron (half)
  • Chefs pants (blue and white)

Each learner must have a LOCKED TOOLKIT containing:

1.Set of measuring cups (250ml, 100ml, 50ml, 25ml) (correct measurements obtained at Boardmans)

2.Measuring spoons (1ml, 2ml, 5ml, 10ml)

3.Whisks

4.Wooden spoon

5.Palette knife

6.2 dishcloths

7.Oven gloves

8.Tupper/plastic lunch tin

9.Measuring jug (500 ml)

10.Chef’s knife

(All above items to be locked in the storeroom at school)

Everything must be clearly MARKED

Each learner is required to work at 1 function in the kitchen and 1 function in the restaurant in Grade 10 – 12)

THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY FOR WORK DURING PRACTICAL LESSONS

1.Learners must bring their complete chef uniform and toolkit to school on the days when they have their practical lessons.

2.Should learners not bring their uniform and toolkit they will not be allowed to do

their practical work and will forfeit marks. (Constructive written work will be given

as punishment).

3.THE UNIFORM AND KIT MUST BE PROPERLY MARKED

Learners are not allowed to borrow from each other.
