Description –
Civics is a required Social Studies course that explains our American History and formation of government.We will be studying our founding fathers and many primary documents. Further, our Civic responsibilities and duties will be discussed.
Goal
To provide each student with a structured and supportive environment which empowers each student to think critically, communicate clearly, and build relationships that will enhance personal and professional lives as responsible citizens.
Required Materials
Notebook – single subject for this course only
Writing utensil – Black/Blue Ink only or a #2 Pencil
Textbook – Civics Today Textbook (Glencoe/McGraw Hill 2010)
Grading Policy
Assessment is made up of a combination of homework, participation, and tests/quizzes. Students will write across the curriculum which entails writing on certain subject matters and current events. Students will also work independently on assignments from the book such as chapter section reviews and vocabulary assignments.
Grades
Are based on an accumulation of points. Add all points earned and divide by the total number of points for a percentage. See the Reynolds Junior-Senior Handbook for complete school grading policy.
A= 92% - 100%
B = 84% - 91%
C = 72% - 83%
D = 60% - 71%
F = 59% and below
Home Work Policy
Absenteeism is the single biggest detriment to success!!! Should you be absent, it is your responsibility to collect your makeup work. You have the number of days that you are absent to makeup the work. Late work will equal ½ credit.

**Be Responsible and accept the consequences of your behavior!!! Failure to comply with class rules will result in a verbal warning, followed by a loss of Citizenship points and/or a change of seat. If behavior continues a phone call home and/or disciplinary form will be sent to the office.
Citizenship
Free 100/100 points each nine weeks
5 point deduction if not responsible
Deduction is DOUBLE for “subs” and “tests”
L = Late
U = Unprepared (notebook, book, or pencil)
D = Disrupts class /Talking
H = Hall Pass
C = Cell phone Present
P = Profanity
S = Sleeping or Head Down
F = Food/Drink Present
W = Not Compliant/Working
