EMPLOYMENT and VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

The Tri-Town YMCA is always looking for caring, knowledgeable people to join our staff. The following paid and volunteer positions may be available:

Sunshine Callers: 1 hour/week, year round

Y’s Kids Mentors: 1-2 hours/week during the school year

Kids Night Out Staff: 8 hours/month during the school year

Christmas Tree Sales: hours vary, Thanksgiving - Christmas

Day Camp Counselors: 9-10 weeks during the summer

Delivery of library books to homebound seniors: 2-3 hours/month, year round

Since 1985, the Tri-Town YMCA has been offering Y’s Kids Programs, a safe before and after school alternative, for children to attend, while their parents are at work or continuing their education. Our programs are available Monday – Friday, during the school year, to children who attend School Districts 44 and 45. Both Jr. Y’s Kids and Y’s Kids are offered in 7-week sessions.

Jr. Y’s Kids

Jr. Y’s Kids is available to students in School Districts 44 and 45, who attend half-day kindergarten, and need a half-day program. Our goal is to meet the needs of children, resulting in a fun and flexible daily schedule.

Children are encouraged to be creative, develop new skills and broaden their interests. Our curriculum concentrates on socialization skills. Activities may include arts and crafts, group time, recreational outdoor play and gym time. We may also work with your school district to enhance the existing kindergarten program. Jr. Y’s Kids is held at Manor Hill School. Transportation is included.

Y’s Kids provides FUN ACTIVITIES in a safe and secure environment. Y’s Kids objectives are:

¨  To help children learn and demonstrate the values of caring, citizenship, trustworthiness, fairness, respect and responsibility.

PM Y’s Kids in District 44 will have the opportunity again this year to participate in the YMCA’s Sports Club. The Y Sports Club teaches fundamentals and skill building in a variety of sports. Children will be divided up into teams and play weekly games. The program runs in six week sessions and busing is available for students. For more information call us at 629-9622.

Y’s Kids Tutoring Program

We are offering a tutoring program at our office with Charmaine Boswell. Instruction in reading, writing, and math will be available. We will be working in conjunction with Ms. Boswell to offer this program to our after school Y’s Kids participants. Parents will find this to be convenient for them to utilize the time during Y’s Kids for their tutoring needs. Ms. Boswell has an office located in Eastgate Shopping Center, Lombard. All programs are held at Manor Hill School. A minimum number of participants are needed to run the program. Advanced registration is required. Registration is accepted only through the YMCA office.

YMCA Flag Football (Co-ed, Ages 6 – 10)

Players learn skills, rules, sportsmanship and teamwork through drills and scrimmages, while having fun. As in all YMCA youth activities, EVERYBODY PLAYS, EVERYBODY WINS! The fee includes weekly scrimmages, a T-shirt, a celebration event and lots of fun! Mouth guards are required.

Swartz School Sports Club

Grades 2nd-4th

Students of Swartz Elementary School in Oak Brook Terrace can join the YMCA’s after school sports program. In this instructional program a different sport will be featured every six weeks. Participants will be taught the rules, skills, and play weekly scrimmage games. A snack will be given each day of the program. Players must supply their own mouth guard to participate. Dates may be subject to change due to school calendar.

Y Guides and Princesses Programs

For 38 years, our Y Guides and Princesses programs have been building strong kids and strong families in Lombard, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace. Our program is designed to create an atmosphere of fun, while spending quality time with your child. The program focus is to foster parent/child relationships.

Kids Night at the YMCA (Kindergarten thru 5th grade)

Kid’s Night at the YMCA allows parents to go out to dinner, a movie, shopping or spend some quiet time at home, while the kids have some fun at the YMCA. Each night will have activities centered on a theme. Pre-registration is required. A MINIMUM of 10 participants per night is required.

Train Ride with Santa

Start the Holiday Season with an early visit with Santa! Enjoy a round-trip train ride to Elburn, with Santa reading a story and visiting with kids. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at the Pavilion at 10:45 AM. Space is limited to 75 people, pre-registration is required.

2008 Summer Camp Registration Kick-Off at Enchanted Castle

This winter get out of the house and come to the YMCA’s 2008 camp registration kick-off. There will be games with prizes, food, and tons of fun! Stop by our summer camp table and register your child for the YMCA’s 2008 summer camp. Bring the kids and let them play while you get all the information on our summer camp programs. Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Day is an event that takes place in YMCA’s across the country. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities that promote health and fitness. Summer Camp

Campers have been experiencing our Day Camp programs for more than 34 summers, and we have planned another fun-packed summer for 2008! Our camps provide a safe, enriching environment, while offering a variety of stimulating activities. Campers spend time at local forest preserves participating in camp games, crafts, nature activities, hiking, and boating. Swimming days take place at Moran Water Park and other local water parks. We will also go on weekly field trips to places like the Kane County Cougars game, North Ave. Beach, the Museum of Science and Industry, and more!
