Population Health - Hypertension Care and Depression Guidelines

Updates to the Hypertension and Depression Clinical Guidelines are complete. The Guidelines are currently in front of the regional medical directors for a vote, but expected to be released soon. Please begin using the updated Hypertension Care Guideline and Depression Care Guideline once they are distributed within your clinics, as they represent the most recent and updated evidence-based research. The Guidelines were updated in collaboration with the primary care regional medical directors, and with specialty providers. In the case of the Depression Care guideline, Dr. Tank from the Adena Counseling Center was instrumental in reviewing and making recommendations on these contents within the Guideline. Thanks to all of our providers who participated in the successful development of these protocols.

Adena Featured

Adena’s success with our pharmaceutical plan has led to a national feature by The Advisory Board Company ( touting our use of the Crimson tool to increase generic drug utilization and save the health system money. The feature shows how Adena beat the inflation PMPM mark for specialty drug utilization, each year from 2012 to 2015, resulting in a cost savings of $1.1 million, and seeing generic drug utilization leap from 74.6% to 85% among employees. It is important to note the cost savings did not produce any reduction in care or quality.
