Fairy Tale Book Report Project

DUE DATE:

The students will complete the following items:

q A Wanted Poster – see attached example. Using an 8 X 11 sheet of paper, (preferably light-colored paper) the student will create a wanted poster of the villain (bad) character in the story. It can be made using a computer, but the illustrations should be hand-drawn.

q Make a classified folder about a book you have read.

o  Materials –

§  File folder (provided by Mrs. Miglino)

§  Lined paper

§  Crayons/markers/pencils

§  Glue/stapler

o  Decorate the front cover with the title, author, your name, and a colorful picture about the book.

o  On the inside left of the file folder, write a summary of the book on lined paper. Then glue or staple the paper on the folder. Students will follow the “somebody, wanted, but, so, then,” format that we learned in class. Somebody is the main character, wanted is what the main character wants or is looking for, but is the problem, so is how the problem is solved and then is how the story ended. The purpose is to show that summaries are not supposed to be long and detailed. Attached is a summary sheet to use for a rough draft.

o  On the inside right of the file folder, students will include 2 items. On the top half, the students will name the main characters and create a drawing of each. On bottom half, the students will name the setting of the story and draw a picture of that place.

o  On the back, answer the following question using lined paper. How is this story alike and different from the original fairy tale? (For Example, how is Dinorella the same and different from Cinderella?) There should be two paragraphs. One for how they are alike, one for how they are different.

o  CHALLENGE: For those students who want to go the extra mile – Write a different ending to the fairy tale on the back of the file folder. The problem must remain the same, but change how the problem was resolved. OPTIONAL
