Administration Report – Linda Lennox and Kelly McTavish

Boundary change

-It was determined that all older French Immersion students will remain at Edenrose as this was the choice indicated by the survey sent home to families.

Parent Numeracy Conference

-A parent numeracy conference is being held on April 18th and the flyers will be sent home with students along with their report cards.

-Edenrose is planning informative sessions during open house held during Education week. Parents will get a chance to see learning in action.

Swim to survive

-This is a safety initiative provided to each grade 3 classroom.

-Bussing and lessons provided at no extra charge to provide basic skills on how to be safe in the water.

-The sessions were held at River grove Community Center.

Skating

-Teachers are looking into a new program that would also provide instruction as well as skates and helmets to those students who don’t have them already.

-Students who already own skating gear can bring their own.

-This program is being planned for grade 3 to grade 5 and details are still being worked on.

Salvation Army Food Drive and Pals – Sandra Pellerin

-Salvation Army was a huge success, we had 2000 items boxed and the members from Salvation Army even came dressed as Santa and his elves.

-We are working on another training session for PALS. The goal is to encourage problem solving on the playground and reduce bullying.

-February was writing month so we have an Edenrose postal system. Students are encouraged to write, label and create stamps for their letters to other students/teachers in school.

-OFIP – Ontario Focus Intervention Program. This program is to support students that need extra help.

-The program is grant based and some teachers have signed up to tutor students for 30-40 mins during recess for a period of 15 weeks.

-Currently we have 6 groups of students working with teachers. Each group has 6 students each. This is being offered to grade 2 and grade 3 students only.

Pizza Day Update – Falak Pasha

-We had one very busy pizza day for our students.

-It turned out to be popular food day. Out of 895 students, 627 students placed orders.

-We ordered a total of 142 pizzas.

-Some parent concerns were lack of options. We offered cheese pizza only due to the volume of orders.

-Some hurdles we faced were due to the size of the school. All grades eat lunch at 12:10 pm and not all students eat in their classrooms.

-Distributing pizza to 627 students at the same time required a lot of man power. We had about 13-14 parents come out to volunteer. We even recruited some grade 5 helpers.

-Other hurdles were due to the fact that grade 3 and grade 4 students are split up all over the school for lunch. This added a layer of complexity in getting the pizza orders to the students in time.

-Pizza was ordered through Gino’s and they delivered pizza late. This goof up caused major issues on pizza day. Since this was really unsatisfactory, we got 30% off our bill. Money owed Gino’s was $696

-Total revenue was $2206. After payments our net profit was $1508.

-The net profit is a very good number and the committee decided to come up with other fundraising methods for our large school or have split pizza days.

-Council decided to support the music room updates with this money.

FDK Registration.

-Details of FDK registration were discussed.

-First week in June parent of new kindergarten students will be offered a “Welcome to Kindergarten” session.

Move a thon.

-Daisy Miller is the parent member helping out with this fundraiser.

-The dates decided are March 12 and 13th.

-This is a teacher initiated event and forms will be sent home Feb 20th.

-Parents will be asked to volunteer and the grades will be split between 2 days.

-We are still considering a Math Night event to tie into Education Week. This will give parents an opportunity to see student work.

-We are also still considering ways to spend the 500$ PRO grant. Some suggestions included having a talk by speaker on BYOD, online safety and digital citizenship.

-Linda agreed to send info on speakers to parents to decide this.

-Meetings gets adjourned.
