Ms. Moneypenny’s ~ 6thGrade Accelerated Math

WELCOME TO 6th Grade Honors Math! I am thrilled to have you in my class. Math can be a fun and exciting subject and I will work hard this year to make sure you enjoy it and are successful. It is extremely important that you put forth your very best effort in class and at home. I expect each student to be respectful of their teacher, their peers and themselves. To make sure that you have a successful year in math, here are some guidelines and procedures you will need to follow.

Grading

There will be grades for tests, quizzes, daily work, and performance tasks. Infinite Campus will allow you and your parents to have access to your average at any time. Percentages will be as follows: Daily Grades-30%, Quizzes and Classwork 25%, Unit Tests, Projects & Performance Tasks-50%., Final Exam- 10%.**A grade of 75 or above is required to stay in Accelerated math. Students may choose to opt out of AC math the first 10 days of each semester.

Materials

You must have a math binder with notebook paper and an agenda in class with you at all times. You will need dividers to separate your notebook into 5 sections (Problem of the Day/Journals, Notes, Class work, Homework, Tests). These different sections allow for each student to remain organized. All notes and journal writing need to be dated and kept current. Notebooks will be checked and graded periodically. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get missing notes.Students will need pencils, 1.5 inch binder, notebook paper, colored pencils and dividers. Please make sure these supplies are in their binder so that they are available as needed.

Homework

Practice is a vital part of any math class. I will do my best to keep homework to a minimum. Often we will accomplish what we need to in class. Studying daily notes is an excellent way to stay on top of new concepts.I feel that if we work hard and make good use of our class time, we can do the majority of our practice in class where I am available to give assistance and answer questions.

Make Up Work

It is the student’s responsibility to make-up all work according to board policy. Class notes missed must also be caught up in a timely manner. Late work will not be accepted; however students will have time four days a week during Hawk time to complete work.

ExtraHelp

Please do not hesitate to ask for extra help if you do not understand. Waiting only makes it harder to catch up.

I will send out weekly emails that will provide students with websites they can visit for extra practice and help.

Special Note to Parents: Please know that you are welcome to contact me with any concerns you may have. Call the school and leave a message at 478-542-2240 or e-mail me at . If you have Internet access, I encourage you to take advantage of weekly agendas that I send out. These will inform you of our tentative activities, focus words and helpful websites.

I am looking forward to an exciting year with you at Huntington Middle. Parents and students please sign below to indicate that you are aware of the guidelines and procedures for AC Math.

Thank you,

Ms. Moneypenny
