Dear Colleagues
As you might already know this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal is back on Friday 13 November and it promises to be bigger than ever – offering all new skills development and fundraising opportunities for children and young people around the UK. Our school; along with thousands of others across the UK, is going to participate in a programme for BBC Children in Need called Champions of Change.
Supported by Lloyds Bank, the Champions of Change education initiative will see our pupils take ownership of their fundraising activities. The process will enable pupils to develop skills, increase in confidence and work cooperatively. As well as fundraising, they will plan and run their own Celebration of Champions Assembly to celebrate the whole school’s fundraising achievements.
Champions of Change is run by children, for children.
Flexible lesson plans are provided for you to help pupils plan and run their own fundraising activities: these have been specially designed to meet curriculum requirements and to help develop existing skills whilst actively learning new ones. There are differentiated activities to cater for different ages and abilities.
This is where I need your help!
A pupil group of lead Champions will be set up to coordinate fundraising in the school. This group, with guidance from the BBC Children in Need planning materials, will kick off fundraising in school with a Launch Assembly. This same group will also lead the BBC Children in Need Celebration of Champions Assembly on Friday 13 November (or chosen date), with help from keen pupil volunteers from your classes. It would really make this a memorable event, and help to raise even more money for BBC Children in Need, if you would agree to use the lesson resources in one of the subject areas (Maths, English or PSE) to
help your class plan and hold their own fundraising event sometime between now and the celebration. Pupils will be rewarded for their efforts with certificates at the Celebration of Champions Assembly along with a host of entertainment!
All you need to do is click the link below to access your ready-to-use lesson resources and download the resource pack of your choice.
Each pack contains two lessons with accompanying PowerPoints with printable resources. There are packs for Early Years Foundation Phase, Foundation Phase and KS2.
Once your class has decided on a BBC Children in Need fundraising activity please let me know – just to make sure there are no competing bake sales on the same day! A class list will be displayed in the staffroom – please fill in your activity next to your class. Please also note, on (date) the Celebration of Champions will raise additional funds by being a hero-themed school Dress-Up Day as well.
Thank you in advance for your support.
