Purpose of the New Role:
To lead, plan and develop the Arts and Humanities Foundation Programme in the University of Nottingham Foundation Academy. The person appointed will carry out teaching, undertake administration, lead the Arts and Humanities foundation team and provide tutorial and pastoral support to international foundation students. The role holder will work closely with the University Director of Foundation Programmes (UDFP) and the Nottingham Foundation Academy to deliver high quality Foundation programme provision. The role holder will also play a leading role in foundation marketing & student recruitment, programme/module development and review and quality assurance activities.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / Deliver teaching across a range of high quality lectures, tutorials and demonstrations throughout the year. Continue developing pedagogical skills including knowledge of teaching methods and techniques.Contribute to the development of examination questions, set and mark assignments/tests and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback to students. / 40%
2. / Working closely with the UDFP and destination schools; lead, plan and develop the programme, including taking responsibility for programme structure, module design and approval, handbook, assessment strategy, compliance with UoN Teaching Quality Assurance standards and procedures. / 30%
3. / Develop and deliver a Personal Tutorial system and to provide pastoral care for students – ensuring a high quality learning experience. / 10%
4. / Responsible for administrative duties including assisting in effective marketing of the Foundation programme, Admissions and recruitment; working with the Widening Participation Team and International Office; leading the team. / 10%
5. / To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed, as required by the University Director of Foundation Programmes. / 5%
6. / To manage a team of foundation teachers and liaise with other module providers and destination schools to ensure provision and delivery of the highest quality. To reflect on practice and the development of own and team’s teaching and learning skills and identify developmental activities. / 5%
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education / A degree qualification (or equivalent) in a related discipline. / PGCHE or other teaching qualification.
Postgraduate degree in a related discipline.
Skills/Training / Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office and other computer packages (ability to acquire skills in the use of the virtual learning environment ‘Moodle’).
Excellent oral & written communication skills.
Effective organisation and time management skills.
Ability to devise, advise on and manage learning programmes.
Experience / Substantial teaching experience at Foundation, GCE A-level or 1st year degree level in an Arts and/or Humanities related discipline.
Substantial experience leading the delivery and assessment of taught modules at Foundation/A-Level and/or 1st year UG level.
Experience of providing Personal Tutorial Support and Pastoral care to students at Foundation/A level and/or 1st-year UG level.
Experience of teaching academic topics to diverse student groupsduring their transition in to HE.
Track record of teaching innovation.
Proven enthusiasm for inspiring learning.
Experience of managing and leading a team.
Significant experience in leadingstudent admissions/recruitment activity. / Marketing experience in an educational context.
Experience of strategic thinking.
Personal Attributes / A proven ability to teach to a very high standard and to inspire students and encourage them to reach their full potential.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently as required.
Ability to take responsibility for given tasks in order to deliver solutions to a given deadline.
