-Update from Gina Birkett, Hampshire Teenage Pregnancy partnership (attached at end of minutes)
2012 ward data becomes available in June 2014.
-Drugs and alcohol - Angeline from Catch 22 updated the group. They continue to receive referrals for one to one support, mainly specialist support for use of cannabis, M-CAT and legal highs. Catch 22 go into schools to provide sessions for targeted groups of students.
-The group discussed local experience of working with users of drugs and alcohol, with concern about the normalisation of cannabis use as young as 13/14 within some communities. Concern also about free parties on the south coast where drug dealers target vulnerable young people with free drugs to become runners.
- Update from NHS Solent
- Andrew was unable to attend but had sent an update about Girl Talk, Boy Talk group sessions being delivered in Rushmoor. For the over 18s there has been a campaign supporting the launch of HIV Quick Check, providing rapid HIV testing in the community.
- Gina Birkett will follow up with Solent about the GTBT programmes.
- Local Action Plan Review (Updates)
- The Local Action Plan was discussed.
- Information about HCC commissioned youth support and NHS sexual health services has been circulated to each secondary school in Hart and Rushmoor.
- Another action was suggested – raising the aspirations of children in care and care leavers through providing a youth coaching programme locally (Autumn 2014).
Provider Updates
- Gaming Zone – provides free youth and play support services for ages 5-23. They are planning to set up as a charity. They will be supporting a health drop in at Fernhill School. If funding is available they will provide GTBT sessions in the summer holidays. A young carers group is being developed in Rushmoor in partnership with Hart Voluntary Action and Fruition Youth.
- Fruition Youth – A young carers group is starting soon in Yateley, and a young parents group. They launched a weekly health and well being drop in last week. This has been publicised in local GP surgeries and schools. Clubs and drop ins are held at The Central building. Outreach drop in sessions are provided in Hook.
- Sarah Franklin, Yateley Youth Forum has got links to GP practice managers and both secondary schools.
- The Source – leaflets were circulated about the Source. They continue to provide mentors for young parents, and deliver talk back sessions (taking young parents and babies into schools).
- Health Visitors – Robyn Heffy has taken on a lead role for teenage parents. HV support goes in to Butterflies Childrens Centre young parents group as well as midwife support.
- Wavell School health and well being drop ins continue.
- Discussion about engaging Nepalese young people in services.
