Dear Parents,

The Advanced Credit Program (ACP), through the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL), is a partnership program between UMSL and over 70 of the best secondary schools in the greater St. Louis Metropolitan area.

Francis Howell North High Schooland UMSL partner to offer college courses to students who are ready and motivated to transition between high school and post-secondary education. These courses are the same courses that are taught to freshmen and sophomores on UMSL’s campus. The difference is that high school students take these classes, at a greatly reduced cost, on their high school campus, with their own, highly qualified high school teachers.

Here are just a few reasons why students enroll in Advanced Credit Program courses:

• Advanced coursework assists in the preparation of students for college level work.

• Students who successfully complete Advanced Credit coursework will have a head start on meeting college requirements.

• The tuition for Advanced Credit courses during the 2015-2016 school year is $64.00 per credit hour – less than 1/5 of current on-campus courses.

• Credit hours, recorded on official UMSL transcripts, transfer to all Missouri state institutions as well as many colleges and universities throughout the nation.

• Eligibility to apply for UMSL’s University Bound Scholarship ($3,000/year) offered to ACP students.

In general, sophomores, juniors and seniors with grade point averages at or above a 2.5 may participate in the program. Students should speak with their high school counselors to see if they meet the qualifications.

Students who enroll should be willing to make a commitment to achieving academic success. Surveys of former ACP students indicate the major benefits of the program are the development of their academic skills and an increase in their self-confidence, both of which strengthen their ability to transition to a college or university setting.
