Education: / Completion of an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with an AA in early childhood education/child development or related field.

Position Overview: The Teacher I is responsible for maintaining the daily operations of his/her assigned classroom and the supervision of children and support staff. There will be occasions when the application of duties for this position will extend beyond the normal physical structure of the center. There will be times that some lifting of objects and children may be necessary. This position requires the person to perform written documentation of activities, incidents/accidents, conversations with parents and children’s behaviors/interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • The teacher cares for the children in his/her assigned group in order to meet their physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs. Most of the time the teacher works in an indoor classroom. The teacher cares for the children while attending trips and neighborhood outings.
  • The teacher is responsible for the daily operations and management of the classroom, as well as the supervision of assigned staff persons and volunteers, writing of lesson plans and assessments of children and the completion of reports in accordance to predetermined schedules.
  • The teacher must insure the maintaining of standards in accordance to the guidelines set forth by the Department of Human Services, Department of Public Welfare, the Child Care Resources and any other governing body/ies.
  • Provides the children with routine interactions that promotr the well being (comfort, health and safety) of the children as prescribed by the agency and center’s written and oral policies and practices.
  • Develops and implements an action plan that addresses a specific developmental need of a child after having made an assessment of the child’s developmental growth. Implementation of a IEP/IPP written by a support service for the child maybe required.
  • Actively involved with the children in order to provide guidance as they learn and process information.
  • Encourage the children to engage in emergent activities that will enable them to develop and enhance their fine and gross motor skills, their cognitive skills, their language skills and their social skills.
  • Selection of weekly themes are to be reflected in the planning of the lesson plans, providing activities that meet the developmental needs of the children either individually and/or collectively.
  • Provide activities that allow choices that stimulates their creativeness.
  • Keeps the classroom clean, neat, safe and inviting.
  • Communicates with parents, children, co-workers and community persons in a cordial and professional manner.
  • Provide routine information to parents concerning their children (accidents/ activities, problematic concerns and health issues). Discuss unusual/severe concerns/problems with the program director.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings in order to discuss concerns about a child’s developmental growth and to develop a prescriptive plan.
  • Attend semi-annual parent teacher conferences.
  • Map out a schedule for distribution of the classroom duties and schedule for breaks.
  • Maintain the daily roll book and food forms according to established rules and procedures.
  • Keep the Center Director and Assistant Director abreast of all the needs, concerns and issues regarding to children, parents and staff.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by Assistant and Center Director.

Other Skills: / Computer Skills: Solid knowledge of MS Office including WORD, EXEL, PowerPoint.
Other related skills:The ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and with outside vendors and legal counsel is essential. This position also requires a solid, self-directed individual who can excel both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Candidates must be able to complete tasks according to accepted levels of quality. Must have demonstrated ability to work well under pressure. Experience in a growing entrepreneurial company is preferred.
