General description

This modern looking digital talking watch has a contemporary design with a rose gold coloured metallic case. It announces both the time and date in a natural male English voice. Its radio control feature enables the watch to receive a radio signal which sets the time and date automatically. The radio control feature also changes the time from British summer to winter time automatically and vice-versa.

The UK transmitter is based in Anthorn, Cumbria, and typically has a reaching distance of up to 620 miles or 1000 kilometres.

The watch automatically receives the time signal at 3am every day to maintain accurate timing.

If the watch does not set automatically it could be due to a weak signal. It is recommended that the watch should be left by a window in order to receive the strongest possible signal.

Certain electrical equipment such as a television or computer, and some metallic objects may affect the radio signal.

The watch can also be used in Germany, Japan and the USA, (60 KHz only) where a suitable radio signal can be received, setting the time and date automatically. In countries with no signal your watch time and date can be set manually. Details of how to do this are included.

The date function is only available when the watch has received the atomic signal.

Orientation

With the face of the watch towards you (the buckle part of the strap should be furthest away from you) you will find the following buttons around the edge of the watch face:

S1 (this is located at the 2 o'clock position (top right)): Time, Date Announcement and Reception Status button.

a. Press once to hear the hour and minute.

b. Press twice to hear the day, month, date and year.

c. Press three times to hear the reception status. If the radio signal reception was successful the watch will speak the country name it is set to, followed by "Time updated". If the radio signal reception failed the watch will speak the country name it is set to, followed by "Time not updated".

d. Press and hold for about three seconds to manually search for the radio signal.

Please note: In some poor reception areas the watch may not update every night. Try moving the watch to a new location. However, the watch's timekeeping is very accurate and can miss a few nights updating without any serious loss of accuracy.

S2 (this is located at the 4 o'clock position (bottom right)): Set button and Light.

Press this button once to activate the watch face's backlight.

If you press and hold this button it will take you into the Watch menu mode, which includes the country signal selection and manual time set. Details can be found later in these instructions

S3 (this is located at the 10 o'clock position (top left)): Alarm notification.

Press this to hear the alarm time set and whether the alarm is on or off.

S4 (this is located at the 8 o'clock position (bottom left)): Alarm set and Alarm on/off button.

Press once to enter the alarm time set and then press again to switch the alarm on or off.

Please note: There is no "Day talking" function after a new battery has been installed until it gets a first signal update.

The round digital watch face shows the following information when in normal time, from top to bottom: Day (4mm, 16 point font (abbreviated as first three letters of day)), time in 12 hour format (7mm, 28 point font), and date (4mm, 16 point font (as month and date - such as 3-29 for March 29th)).

Troubleshooting

Q. My watch is not receiving a time update.

A. You are outside of the UK, Germany, USA or Japan and cannot receive a signal. Please follow the instructions for manual time setting.

A. Your watch is set to the incorrect time zone for your location. Please follow the instructions for global signal selection.

A. You are in a built up area or signal is affected by interference from electronic devices. To receive a time update place the watch by a window overnight to get the strongest signal. If your watch is unable to receive an update it will continue to function as a standard watch. The time will be corrected the next time it receives the time signal.

Caring for your watch

Your watch is not water-resistant and should not be immersed in water. Should the watch accidentally become wet, wipe dry quickly and do not operate until dry. When not being used for a long period of time, keep the watch in a cool dry place.

Battery replacement

A new battery may be needed if the watch stops, the LCD display becomes dim or the watch does not function correctly.

Sighted assistance may be required to replace the battery and to synchronise the watch before use. It is recommended that trained jewellers or watch specialists should fit new batteries to avoid any damage to the watch.

This watch uses a CR2025 type battery. A replacement battery is available from RNIB under product code CP06.

Remove the four screws from each corner on the back of the watch with a small cross headed screwdriver and carefully remove the back case, making sure you do not lose the waterproof seal, which sits around the perimeter of the opened watch case.

Take care not to damage the two springs that make contact with the watch back speaker.

Remove the metal plate covering the battery by releasing the clip at the top side of the battery and take out the battery. Insert a new one (noting the polarity”+” is up). Re-attach the metal plate over the battery and clip back into place.

Before you put the case-back on again, make sure the waterproof seal is correctly in place and re-attach the adhesive plastic cover over the battery area.

The battery life will depend on how often you use the talking function.

Following a battery replacement it will be necessary to reset the watch. Please follow the instructions for a manual signal reception under the Reception Status Check section.

Please note: RNIB does not guarantee batteries or watch straps.
