Talent Contest Rules
1. The Talent Contest consists of two divisions:
* Junior Division: 12 years or less of age
* Senior Division: 13-21 years of age (If you will be 13 years of age anytime during 2017 you must enter the Senior Division)
Each division will operate independently with prizes being awarded in each division, as well as an overall junior winner & an overall senior winner.
2. There are 13 categories for both the Junior and Senior Division.
* Vocal Solo-Female * Dance Solo * Tumbling Solo
* Vocal Solo-Male * Dance Group * Tumbling Group
* Vocal Group * Novelty Solo * Clogging Solo
* Instrumental Solo * Novelty Group * Clogging Group
* Instrumental Group
3. Solo contestants must be a primary resident of Posey County. Group acts must consist of at least one member who is a resident of Posey County. Every contestant must be an Indiana Resident. If residence is questioned, performer’s residence will be determined by the driver’s license of the parents or legal guardians.
4. Each act should be entered in the appropriate division based on a contestant’s age. Group acts must compete in the division determined by the majority age in the group. No one older than 14 may compete in the Jr. Division.
5. A contestant may participate in one solo act and one group act at the county level. If both acts are chosen to perform at the state fair, the contestant must only choose one. Second place winners will be allowed to compete at the state fair, if 1st place is forfeited.
6. The contestant must provide a CD if using accompaniment. It must be cued up, marked, and labeled with the act’s name.
7. Performance time allotted shall be: 2:00-minute limit for solo act; 2:30-minute limit for duets and groups of three or more; 5:00-minute limit for band performance. An official timer will be present at each competition during the Indiana State Fair Youth Talent Contest. Ten penalty points will be deducted from the score of any act that exceeds the designated time limit for that act. Timing begins: a) When music begins, when music is used, OR b) At first movement or vocal utterance of performer without musical accompaniment.
8. Set up time for props, including mats, is 2 minutes. Ten penalty points will be deducted if set-up time exceeds 2 minutes.
9. Those acts that contain more than 2 tumbling tricks must be entered as “Tumbling” acts.
10. Any recorded accompaniment for a vocal act must be purely instrumental. (Karaoke)
11. Dressing facilities & sound system will be furnished. Contestants are responsible for tumbling mats and runners. Contestants will be responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged equipment.
12. An Entry Fee of $10 for each contestant is required to enter the contest. Contestants will receive a One-Day free pass to the fair for the Friday night of the show.
13. If a contestant should decide to drop out at any time, the entry fee will not be refunded.
14. Judging will be based on the following:
* Artistry & Creativity * Showmanship & General Impression * Degree of Difficulty
* Execution * Timing & Rhythm * Performance Factors
* Technique * Age Appropriate Words /Songs *Entertainment Value
15. Any ties will be broken by the judges.
16. The judges’ decisions are final. Score sheets will be given back upon request.
17. The highest scoring act from each category in either division will be eligible to participate at the Indiana State Fair Youth Contest.

20. The contest this year will be Friday, July 20 at 6:00 PM in the Posey County Community Center. Please arrive by 5:45 PM for contestant check in.
