Specifications for the Digital Cinema Package (DCP)
All screening systemsmust be compliant with currentISO standards and DCI Specifications.
It is recommended to send two identical DCP copies of the same film (one is the backup copy) by the date determined by the festival organisers. Each DCP must contain only the movie;no other content should be included.
Each DCP must be compliant with the “Interop DCP Format”.At some future point it is expected that film distributors will migrate to “SMPTE DCP Format”. Production teams and laboratories need to check this point with festival organisers.
Each DCP should be delivered on Physical Media (a Hard Drive) that supports the CRU, eSATA, and USB2 data interface.
Each Hard Drive (for the DCP Show Print, and for the DCP Backup) must include theDCP-TECHNICAL FORMprovided by the Festival Organisers. Information included in this form should be precisely supplied by the organization that is submitting the movie.
Additional information and requirements:
Key Delivery Message (KDM). If the DCP is encrypted and therefore requires a KDM, it is essential to provide KDMs valid for all Server Certificates that will be used during the festival.
The validity must startat a date determined by the festival organisers and end on the day after the end of the festival.
It is advisable to deliver the KDMs via e-mail, to an appointed member of the festival’s team. The organisation preparing the movie will need to indicate, as soon as possible, the person to whom the Festival team should send the Server Certificates.
On-Screen Subtitles should be delivered burned into the picture. If delivered as a file embedded in the DCP, and/or as a Supplementary Package, it is the responsibility of the organization supplying the movie to ensure that the sub-titles are in sync with each frame of the entire movie, and interoperable with the D-Cinema systems provided at the festival.
Off-Screen Subtitles. These will normally appear on a separate screen under the main screen. The file containing these sub-titles must be delivered on separate media. These subtitles must be in sync (timed text) with on-screen subtitles .
Quality Check – QC. It is strongly recommended that each DCP (Show Print and Backup) have a Total Quality Check (TQC) before sending it to the festival. The TQC (Image quality, picture format, audio quality, subtitles, etc.) should be carried out , and validated, at the laboratory that creates the DCP. These quality checks must be carried out using an ISO standard.
Production teams should not expectto make changes or modifications to the DCP at the festival.
