Leadership Conference – November 17-19, 2011

Prepare for your role as a volunteer leader in 2012 by attending Leadership Conference. Held in Arlington, VA, these two and a half days provide a wide variety of information, leadership development, networking and opportunity to meet with SHRM staff. Preconference sessions include the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill or attend the Membership Summit. Hotel and conference registration is open September 6th. Leadership Conference – Regional Council Meetings – November 17, 2011

As with previous conferences, we will be holding individual Regional Council meetings (for state council director and director-elects), as well as an All-Regions Meeting, in conjunction with this event. Although the overall conference schedule is in the process of being finalized, we DID hear you – and, based on last year’s feedback, are pleased to confirm that these meetings will take place on the front end of the conference, just prior to the opening general session. Here’s the schedule:

All-Regions Meeting ~ 1:00 – 2:00 pm Eastern

Individual Regional Council Meetings ~ 2:00 – 3:00 pm Eastern

Leadership Conference – IMPORTANT HOUSING NOTE

The conference will conclude for all attendees following the Closing Luncheon at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 19th. For those current state council directors and in-coming state directors who are eligible for three night’s overnight accommodations, you now have three housing choices: [1] Arrive Thursday-November 17 and depart Sunday-November 20 as originally scheduled (three night stay); [2] Arrive Wednesday-November 16 and depart Saturday-November 19 by substituting your Saturday night stay for Wednesday (three night stay); or [3] Arrive Thursday-November 17 and depart on Saturday-November 19 (two night stay). You decide!!

Regional Council Summit – February 24-25, 2012

The 2012 Regional Council Summit will be held at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, TX. The target audience is state council director and director-elects. This event provides an additional opportunity after Leadership Conference for information specific to the role of state council director, networking and sharing of successful practices. Mark your calendars and watch for additional information.

New! SHRM Academic Initiatives Department Seeking Item Writers

Academic Initiatives is seeking certified HR professionals who are interested in becoming item writers and reviewers for the SHRM Assurance of Learning Assessment for Graduating HR Students. Item writing workshops are generally held three times a year—once in spring, summer and fall. After training, item writers are assigned two content areas to write questions. Recertification credit is available in the Leadership category (up to 10 hours) as well as the research/publishing category (1 recertification hour awarded for every 3 items that make it into the final item bank).
