2012 Women in Business Awards – Nomination Guidelines
General Nomination Guidelines (these are general guidelines; specific award category guidelines may be more exclusive).
1. Nominees must be working in paid, full time positions. Individuals working part-time, or as a unpaid volunteer are not eligible for award consideration
2. Although there are no specific financial management requirements, the most competitive nominees will have responsibility for revenues in excess of $1M and/or expenses in excess of $1M
3. Nominees must spend 90% of their time working in the greater San Fernando Valley region, which includes the geographic boundaries of Glendale to the east; Lancaster to the north; Santa Monica Mountain range to the south; and through the city of Camarillo. Nominees may live outside the region but must work inside the region
4. You are welcome and encouraged to self nominate
5. The honorees for this year’s Women in Business Awards will be announced at the awards event on April 18th. Only those nominees who confirm their attendance are eligible to be considered for an award
6. Nominees who were selected for an award in this program in 2009, 2010 and 2011 not eligible for an award in the 2012 program. For a complete list of past honorees, visit our website at www.sfvbj.com.
How to Complete & Submit Nomination Form
1. Complete as much information on this nomination form as possible. Don’t worry if you do not have all the necessary information. Upon receiving this nomination form, each nominee will be contacted to request additional information
2. Nominees may be nominated in multiple categories. Please check every category where the nominee could be considered
3. Briefly tell us why you think your nominee is deserving of recognition. Please keep your comments to a maximum of one-page. If you don’t have time to prepare a one page narrative, submit the nomination without it. Again, we will be contacting all nominees for additional information

____CEO of the Year- Must hold a CEO title
- Minimum of 20 employees in company/firm
- Must manage a company/firm budget of at least $5M
- Only for-profit CEO eligible for this category
- Minimum of 10 years as CEO in any company and/or firm / _____Not-for-Profit/Public Sector Executive of the Year
- Responsible for budget in excess of $5M
- Agency in existence at least 10 years
- Strong growth in past two years; either in revenue produced number of clients served, etc.
- Agency is managed like a business in terms of financial management and operations
_____Business Owner of the Year
- Must own at least 51% of the business/firm
- Minimum of 5 employees in company/firm
- Must manage company/firm budget of at least $2M
- Company/firm must have been in business minimum of 5 years / _____Business Team of the Year
- Awarded to a team of women (minimum of 2 but no more than 4 team members) who have achieved a significant business accomplishment (outstanding revenue growth, exceptional customer and/or employee satisfaction, launch of new product, etc.)
- Only for-profit business teams eligible for this award
_____Executive of the Year
- Any C-level title is eligible for consideration
- Minimum of 10 years in C-level positions
- Typically, employed by company/firm
- Responsible for budget at least $25M
- Responsible for department/company/firm in excess of 20 employees
- Only for-profit executives eligible for this category / _____Volunteer of the Year
- Volunteer work is conducted primarily in the greater SFV region
- Volunteerism is NOT part of the nominee’s job responsibilities and/or job description
- Nominee must work full-time in professional and/or executive level position AND have the time and resources to serve as a volunteer in any volunteer capacity
_____Newcomer of the Year
- This award is for an executive level woman who has significant responsibilities but is new to the region and/or new to her position
- Any C-level executive is eligible for consideration
- Responsible for budget at least $25M
- Responsible for department/company/firm in excess of 20 employees
- Only for-profit executives eligible for this category / ______Rising Star
- Employed by company/firm or owns the company/firm for at least 5 years
- Typically under the age of 40
- Should have manager title or higher
- Should have budget responsibilities
- Should have direct reports
_____Executive Assistant of the Year
- This award is for a professional executive and/or administrative assistant with a minimum of 10 years in a professional administrative role
- Must be able to demonstrate specific tasks and responsibilities that have helped to grow the company/firm or organization
- Must be able to demonstrate nominee’s significance in the company/firm or organization
- Nominee may work for both for-profit entities and not-for-profit organizations
