Key Upcoming Dates:

8th Oct: Going up to Scouts

This is the formal ceremony for Harry Hadley, Ben Havranek, Ollie Noone & Jamie Clarke who are going up to Scouts. It will be held at the Scout Hall at the beginning of the Scout meeting 7pm to 8pm. This will also be a great chance for all Cubs and Parents to see how a Scout meeting is run. There will be a game run for all Cubs and Scouts.

Please come along for this send off and experience. All parents are welcome to stay for the activities.

18th – 19th Oct: JOTA / JOTI. Jamboree of the Air & Internet.

The younger Cubs are able to go along either on the Saturday or Sunday (Day TBA) for activities related to the event. This is essentially is a Scout event, however older Cubs (10 years old) are able to join the Scouts for an over nighter at Narrabeen Caravan Park. Parents of Cubs old enough to attend overnight with the Scouts will be contacted soon.

Interested Parents need to contact James Godfrey (Contact details above)

16th Nov: “Out and About”

This is a Northern Beaches regional event. At this stage we will get the ferry to Circular Quay and then on to Homebush Bay where we will meet up with the other packs. We will then go to the Scout Museum and heritage train at Newington Armory (there may be something else as well details to follow). The cost for the day should be $15 and $2.50 given it’s a Sunday for family (Cub Pack??) funday travel tickets. Further details to follow.

Numbers for this event are needed by 14th October meeting (To Akela / Richard Brooke)

22nd – 23rd Nov: Family Camp –Manly Dam.

After a two and half year absence we are having our annual “Family Camp” at Manly Dam. As this is a FAMILY camp and not a Cub Pack camp, each Cub will need to have an Adult family member with them to stay overnight. We can use the Cub/Scouts equipment. There will be activities on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning (Grey Wolf hikes, Canoeing, badge work, fire lighting & extinguishing etc etc …..) If your Cub would like to come along for this but not stay overnight that’s fine, an E1 form will be needed if a guardian is not staying with them. More info to follow soon.

Please let Akela know if your family is interested

6th Dec: Christmas Tree sale.

This is our annual fundraising event. We are lucky that this & the hall hire covers the majority of our financial requirements and that we don’t have to have regular fundraisers. As such, please be available to come along and help the Cubs, Scouts and Venturer’s sell all the trees we have. A roster for the day to follow soon.

16th or 17th Dec: Joint Cubs, Scouts & Venturers Christmas get together.

This is our last chance of the year to have a Group get together at Manly Dam. Also we may have a Secret Santa, Camp Fire, BBQs, Christmas tree sale wrap up and Going up ceremony for Tom Kelly, Max Arens, Jacob Marsden and Tommy Mclean. A BIG night to be sure. Once again more details to come soon.

Housekeeping notes:

Uniform: Note that, for insurance as well as appearance purposes, Cubs MUST travel to and from Cub

activities in proper Cub uniform. It is important that the uniform is well maintained and worn correctly. (for example: Scarves rolled neat & tight). If any items are missing, we can replace them, but not on the night!

Footwear: We spend a lot of time outdoors, even on hall nights. Please make sure that your Cub is wearing

footwear suitable for outdoor activities. Bare feet, Thongs, Rabens, and Crocs are NOT suitable or safe, and may restrict the activities the Cub is allowed to take part in.

Punctuality: Please endeavor to drop off and pick up Cubs at the times specified. When picking up your Cub, please let the coordinating Leader know, so that we can maintain correct contact and handover of the Cubs.

E1 forms (signed) are needed for all external activities: These will be sent out ahead of time for the

relevant events. The in hall nights are covered by the Program A1 sent out each semester. Only the 1st page

needs to be returned. These forms are essential for insurance and accountability reasons and need to be

completed as required.

Parent Helpers: To achieve the best experience for the Cubs, and maintain the required 1 Adult to 6 Children ratio we have included a Parent Helper roster into the term programs, (Cubs surname of family helping). If you can’t make the evening you have been rostered on for please swap with another parent (Family) or let the coordinating leader for that event know ASAP. If you are dropping your Cub off and are at a loose end till you pick them up please feel free to stay and help, let the coordinating leader know and join in.

It is a requirement of the NSW Govt that a Volunteer Declaration (Scouts form M5) be completed by all volunteers working with children. Each person helping is required to fill the form out (just the once) and give it to the coordinating leader, confidentiality in all matters is one of our main priorities.

Leader Structure: All the leaders are volunteers and have commitments that may restrict what events they can attend. As such the Coordinating Leader (CL) will change from event to event, please see the Term Programs for the CL. The CL will endeavor to confirm the details of an upcoming event - time, place, equipment requirements, activities etc etc. If no confirmation is received refer to the program.

Please refer all queries, correspondence and admin matters to the CL for that event.

Boomerang Badge Work: We intend to have at least one Boomerang badge night at the Hall each term. The Cubs should be putting in some individual effort for the Boomerang badges. Therefore it is expected that on these nights the Cubs will have some elements either ready for assessment or have a good idea of what is required. Eg: For the Ropes section, a little practice at home with a rope tying a reef knot, clove hitch or sheetbend for the Silver Boomerang will give them a lot more pride in the badge then just being shown it and copying.
