ADVICE FOR I’TEKAF

We would request all the brothers who will be participating in I’tekaf in the Masjid during this year to make sure that they read/observe the following rules for I’tekaf set by the mosque office.

RULES:

  • I’tekaf is ONLY open to males above the age of 16, of sound mind and general health.
  • Places will be offered “First come – First Serve” basis. First preferences will be given to “First Timers” and mosque regular worshippers, 2nd to individuals living in local vicinity and any leftover places will be offered to people from other areas again depending upon their Post Code and attending relationship with Birmingham Central Mosque.
  • All individuals wishing to participate in I’tekaf must provide their names, contact details and proof of ID to the main office or Brother Mohi-ud-Din beforehand and all relevant details must be on file. Any individuals wishing to join once the I’tekaf has begun must STILL follow this procedure as long as any spaces are available.
  • The Sunnah I’tekaf for the last ten days will start from sunset of 20th of Ramzan, but individuals participating should be in the Masjid after Asr time. With Niyyah (intention) of I’tekaf, Inshallah, it will remain enforced until the night of Eid-al-Fitr.
  • The secluded area will be allocated and segregated using fabric divisions by the mosque volunteers.
  • During I’tekaf one must always spend his time in Dhikr, Tilawah, Nafl prayers, Du’as and reading about or absorbing Islamic knowledge in such a way that one does not disturb others. One must not make excessive noise in the Masjid by reading out loud.
  • Whenever a collective form of worship or other activity is taking place everyone must join that activity.
  • During the I’tekaf, individuals participating in I’tekaf, must not go out of the Masjid’s main prayer areas except for the essential human needs such as using the lavatory, performing Wudu of ghusljanabah or for food and drink.
  • If one gets out of the Masjid prayer areas other than those mentioned above, his Sunnah I’tekaf will be regarded invalid.
  • One must not bring lots of food or other things which might cause unhygienic issues.
  • Sleeping bags, blankets and other relevant stuff must be of the right size brought by you, each person will be given very nominal sleeping area.
  • When ghusl becomes compulsory, one must leave the prayer hall immediately and perform ghusl (wudu and full wash) and return to the prayer hall as soon as possible.
  • One must not engage himself in unnecessary arguments or talking worldly things (if found in any kind of sectarian discussion, you will be asked to leave the masjid without completing your I’tekaf – for any question or clarification, please speak to our Imam Bokhari sahib).
  • All individuals must respect all members of staff and worshippers. We will try our utmost best to provide the most convenient atmosphere as possible. Our mutual understanding is the virtue of a successful event.
  • You maybe assigned roles and duties for the welfare of other brothers doing I’tekaf.
  • Absolutely NO SMOKING is allowed on any part of the masjid premises and grounds at any time whatsoever. Anyone found smoking will be excluded from I’tekaf and maybe banned for the future.
  • In order to ensure that all brothers doing I’tekaf spend maximum time in Ib’adah, the use of laptops, notebooks, tablets, mobile phone, MP3/MP4 player and all similar gadgets is strictly prohibited.
  • The Birmingham Central Masjid Trust is not responsible for any thefts, damage, lost property, accidents and misdemeanours.
  • ANY BROTHER WHO LEAVES I’TEKAF BEFORE THE DAY OF EID IS ANNOUNCED BY BIRMINGHAM CENTRAL MOSQUE WOULD BE NOTED AND MAYBE BLACKLISTED AND BANNED FROM I’TEKAF IN THE MOSQUE IN THE FUTURE.
  • We reserve the right to remove any individual from he premises if they break these rules. All individuals must co-operate at all times.
  • Please contact the mosque office to obtain “Itekaf Registration Form”, fill-it-in and return ASAP – the Itekaf committee will contact you if your request is considered and to offer you a place. (There is no guarantee just by submitting the request form, Please wait for confirmation!)
