This document summarises the information contained in the Post 16 Transport Statement.

1.Discounted bus passes

Merseytravel offers a range of student term time tickets. The cost depends on the area you travel to and your age, e.g. a single zone ticket (which will suit the majority of students) will cost £67.50 per term (price correct at time of publication).

Arriva North West offers a ‘16+ Student Card’and a ‘Student Saver Card’. Both cards offer reduced fares across Merseyside and Lancashire.

2.KnowsleyCommunity College Students

If you are a full time student at Knowsley Community College you can apply for reimbursement of the cost of a Merseytravel SOLO ticket if you live more than 3 miles from the college. The payments are means tested and the amount paid is based on the type of income and the level of your attendance, e.g. if you receive EMA and you have more than 80% attendance you will be entitled to a refund of 80% of the cost of the termly ticket.

3.Students attending out of borough colleges or schools

If you choose to attend a college / sixth form outside of the Knowsley borough you should contact the Student Services section in your college for information about any financial support they offer to students. It is your responsibility to make your own travelling arrangements to college or sixth form, including the costs associated with travelling. A summary of the main colleges’ policies is outlined below.

LiverpoolCommunity College

In order to qualify for travel support, all learners must fulfil the attendance requirements. You may be entitled to support if you are aged 16 – 18, live in Merseyside, your home is more than one mile away and you receive a means tested benefit.

St HelensCommunity College

Contact Student Services in the College for more information about transport services. You can also purchase a Merseytravel term time ticket or Arriva ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.

CarmelCollege

Carmel College subsidises various bus routes to college, including the ‘700’ series of dedicated buses contracted by Merseytravel, or you can purchase a Merseytravel Term time or Arriva ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.

RiversideCollege, Halton

Discounted bus passes are available to students attending RiversideCollege. The tickets are either single operator for use on Arriva or Halton Transport buses, or ‘Student Hopper’ tickets for use within any local bus service in Halton.

HughBairdCollege

Students may be eligible to apply for help from the college’s Learner Support Fund towards transport costs. You can also purchase a Merseytravel term ticket or Arriva ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.
