Resume Writing with MS Word

Lab Exercise 6

Applicable Program Outcomes, Course Outcomes, and Learning Objectives: PO-3, CO-5, LO-6.

This lab introduces you to special formatting techniques that can be useful in preparing your resume or other important documents. One of Word’s Wizards is employed to take you through the basic steps in this exercise. Complete the steps as shown in WD 138 through WD 159 that prepare a resume for Benjamin Kane Okamoto. An example of the resume is shown on page WD 139 in your lab book. Be sure to print the resume as instructed on page WD 159. As described on pages WD 160 – WD 174, create a letterhead to be used at the top of the cover letter you will create in the next section.

Prepare the Cover Letter to go with the resume by following the steps in WD 175 through WD 191. Be sure to print the Cover Letter as directed at the top of page WD 190. You will find an example of the cover letter on page WD 140. Skip the section titled “Addressing and Printing Envelopes and Mailing Labels” on pages WD 190 – WD 191, but perform the “Smart Tag” and Document Summary” operations on pages WD 191 – WD 195. (Do not attempt to print an envelope.)

Use the Resume Wizard and prepare a resume for Leah A. Malone starting with the instructions on page WD 199. An example of the finished resume is on page WD 199. REMEMBER: As you work on your resume, at the end of each line within a section, press the SHIFT Enter keys and not just the Enter key in order to achieve single-spacing of lines.

Create the Cover Letter for Leah A. Malone’s resume by following the directions on pages WD 199 and WD 200. Skip step 3 on page WD 200.

Before printing any output you are to first perform a “Print Preview” to judge the suitability of your output before wasting printer resources. Include your name on each printed page. Your name on should be in a small font at the bottom of the last page of each project printout.

Prepare a cover sheet for your work on a separate page consisting of the following information:
