Some Young People from the Traveller communities in Lancaster were involved in a Digital Stories project. They recorded their stories with images. / As a class, or with a small group
Watch "My Dog Pig"
Discussion –
Refer to words on board - who was telling the story?
What did we find out about her?
Do you have a pet?
When did you get your pet? / As a class, or with a small group
Watch "The Ring"
Discussion – who told this story? What was her story about?
Have you ever lost anything?
In pairs – take it in turns to tell each other about the item you lost.
Ask questions of your partner – e.g.
How did this make you feel?
Why did this happen?
When did this happen?
Where were you?
What did you do? / Invite a few pupils to share their 'lost' stories
Encourage others to use words on board to ask questions.
Further suggestions – develop pet or lost stories – written or filmed – present to School and or parents
- Short extension activity: Pupils can use digital video cameras to film their final digital story presentation/lost story, and then present these to the rest of the class – You might want to consider ways to share the digital stories with other pupils in the school, parents etc., or maybe include some stories on the schools' website or via an appropriate hosting provider on the web with due regard to safeguarding and parental preferences for use of images
- Longer extension activity: Pupils can film their presentation/lost stories, and then edit them using appropriate video editing software, trying to replicate some of the styles or thematic devices used in the original videos, before presenting these to the class. You might want to consider ways to share the digital stories with other pupils in the school, parents etc., or maybe include some stories on the schools' website or via an appropriate hosting provider on the web with due regard to safeguarding and parental preferences for use of images
