Visual Arts Challenge: Plants and Pollinators

For individuals or Groups (2-5 students max.) – Maximum points: 300, Max. of 3 entries per school

Your Challenge:

Over millions of years, flowers have co-evolvedphysical traits with various animal pollinators. Perfectly adapted to retrieving nutritious nectar from within the blossoms, these animals carry pollen to the next flower, enabling the plant to reproduce.Research the coevolution of flowers and their pollinators and create a 3D model depicting a fictional flower. Write a description based on your research including what kind of pollinator your flower relies upon and any special adaptations that have co-evolved to facilitate pollination.

Entry Submission:

Hand Delivered 3D Model to the EnvironmentalLearningCenterby Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 by 5:00 pm clearly labeled on the bottom with school name, student name, grade, name of flower.

b)Email the typed description to

 / ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
 / Design: Model must be 3-D, made entirely of paper or cardboard, and no larger than 16”.
 / Flower must be fictional but include labeled representations of at least three scientifically based flower parts (pistil, stamen, etc.)
 / Model must be labeled with school name, student(s) name and name of flower
 / Title page should include school name, name of flower and names of all participating students.
 / Typed description should be 200 words or less and include: what type of environment your flower inhabits, what kind of pollinator your flower relies upon, and what special adaptations your flower and pollinator have co-evolved to facilitate pollination.
 / Bibliography citing at least two sources, following MLA or APA format.
 / On time entry submission (late entries may not receive points)
