COURSE EXPECTATIONS: Br. Robert Ruhl, C.S.V.

1) Required materials

A. Students are expected to have the relevant textbook and handouts with them for every class period. The Agenda Book is also to be used.

B. In addition, students will have a notebook, loose-leaf paper, and a pen.

C. Furthermore, students will keep a folder of all their compositions as a means of keeping track of their writing progress. Students should keep copies of their papers in case of loss.

2) Classroom policy and procedure

A. In order to maintain a learning atmosphere, students are expected to respect each other.

B. Students should take notes of class presentations.

C. Students should submit all assignments on the required date. Tardy assignments are no assignments unless excused beforehand.

3) Homework policy

A. Homework consists of reading the text at hand each night. It is important to keep up with the homework if one is to take an active part in the class.

B. Written homework is designed to facilitate understanding of the text and improve the students’ writing ability.

4) Evaluation/grades

A. Quizzes on daily material are given at the discretion of the teacher. Be advised that they are the rule rather than the exception.

B. The date and matter of each major test will be announced in advance.

C. Make-up tests, if warranted by an excused absence, may be either oral or written; they are taken outside of regular class periods. It is the students’ responsibility to make the necessary arrangements promptly upon their return to school.

D. It is the students’ responsibility to complete course work missed during excused absences. This responsibility includes getting notes of material covered in class.

E. Grading follows the standards as listed in the school handbook.

5) Attendance/absence: Excessive absences do not help the learning process. The rules set by the school will be followed.

6) Teacher availability: The teacher will be available at the request of the student. A mutually convenient time will be worked out.
