AXC 2015 Important Summer Dates:

**You must have an athletic physical on file at Avon High School in order to participate in conditioning or practice of any kind!!!**

First day of summer conditioning – Monday, June 8

7:00 a.m. @ Avon High School! We will meet Monday through Friday each week during the summer at 7:00 a.m. Practice should be over by 9:00 a.m. each day when we meet in the mornings. We will meet at different locations (AHS, Washington Township Park, Town Hall Park in Avon, Hummel Park in Plainfield) throughout the summer, which will be explained ahead of time by the AXC coaches so that everyone knows. Conditioning is not mandatory – but in order to be successful we must be training consistently throughout the summer. Put in the work this summer and reap the benefits in the fall!

“Cross Country School” – Tuesday, June 9

For practice on Tuesday, June 9, we will be meeting at Avon High School at 7:00 a.m. We will do our run and then stay after for “Cross Country School” – an introduction to the sport itself and our program. This will provide an opportunity for our younger athletes to learn about what we believe in as a program and lays out the foundations of our training. The coaches are big believers in teaching our sport so that athletes understand the benefits of training and why we do what we do. Practice on this day will last until approximately 10:00 a.m.

AXC Parent Meeting – Thursday, June 11 – 6:00 p.m.

We will have an informative meeting for all parents on Thursday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the AHS cafeteria. We will be giving out further information about the season, including our meet schedule, and will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the program.

AXC Team Camp – Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18

We will be camping in cabins atColumbus Youth Camp again this year, located between Columbus and Nashville, Indiana. We will meetat Avon High School at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 15 and will drive down in activity vans. We will return to Avon High School on Thursday, June 18in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for the athletes to develop camaraderie and talk about our goals as a team for the year. Camp gives the team a great opportunity to begin our season training with the right focus! The cost of team camp this year per athlete will be $70 in order to help cover costs of travel and supplies and should be paid to Coach Toothmanby Friday, June 12. More information will be given out on the first day of conditioning (June 8).

AXC Youth Running Development Camp – Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26

We will have our fourth annual Avon Cross Country Youth Camp the last full week in June at Washington Township Park. The athletes from the boys and girls programs, along with the coaches, will be working the camp. The camp will run from 8:15 (drop off) until 11:15 a.m. (pick-up) each day. We will hold our practice beforehand at WT Park from 6:30-8:30 a.m. each morning this week(30 minutes earlier than normal). This is a great opportunity for us to promote distance running with our younger kids and to promote our program!

Moratorium Week – Monday, June 29 through Saturday, July 4

Moratorium week is a week during the summer in which no Indiana High School athletic teams may meet to hold any kind of official organized practice or conditioning with their coaches. With that being said, the coaches will not be meeting for conditioning this week. This does not mean that you have the week off! Training must still resume, whether it be on your own or by meeting up with other teammates for runs (which is perfectly fine as long as there are no coaches). The upperclassmen will be in charge of meeting during the week to organize training and “recommended” workouts will be given out to each athlete so you will know what to do. We will resume training together on Monday, July 6 at 7:00 a.m. at Washington Township Park for those not going to Brahms’ Camp (see below).

Brahms’Running Camp – Monday, July 6 through Saturday, July 11

Brahms’ Running Camp is a fun and memorable experience for any distance runner. The overnight camp is located in Lincoln City, Indiana and is an Avon XC tradition, with many athletes already signed up! Coach Toothman was a camper in the first two years of camp back in 1998-1999 and has been back every year since, currently working as a camp counselor. For those athletes not attending Brahms’ Camp, conditioning will still take place at the normal practice time in Avon.

IATCCC Cross Country Clinic and Camp – Friday, July 17

This year, there will be a one-day camp at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course (site of the IHSAA XC State Championships) in Terre Haute, Indiana on Friday, July 17 in conjunction with the IATCCC XC Coaches’ Clinic. Athletes will have two opportunities to run on the State meet course, as well as hear speakers discuss course strategy and various other talks on training and racing. Each camper will receive a camp shirt and lunch, and will also be able to tour the Indiana Cross Country and Track & Field Hall of Fame in Terre Haute.

First week of school – Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31

We will practice at Washington Township Park on Monday and Tuesday, July 27-28 at 3:30 p.m. We will stay after school at AHS for practice on the first day of school, Wednesday, July 29, beginning at 3:30 p.m. We will then meet at our normal locations at 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise notified from that point forward. Additional information will be given as school nears.
