POST:Teaching Assistant apprenticeship

RESPONSIBLE TO:ThePrincipal, under the day-to-day management and leadership of the Assistant SENCo

GRADE:Apprentice - £3.43 per hour

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:Academy Leadership Team; relevant teaching and support staff; Oasis Community Learning apprentice team;

LOCATION:Oasis Academy: Isle of Sheppey

WORKING PATTERN:Part time, 30 hours per week, term time only

JOB PURPOSE:

Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey is keen to develop a pro-active Apprentice Teaching Assistant with a ‘can do’ mature approach to working with our students and other adults within our academy. Your key role will be to provide support to our students to ensure that they are able to access high quality learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To contribute to the effective teaching and learning for students.
  2. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children come into contact with.

Duties

Support for students

  • Promote positive activities for students
  • Support student learning in lessons

SUPPORT FOR STAFF

  • Support individual students in lessons as directed by your line manager and teachers
  • Support staff in supervision during unstructured time
  • Promote good student behaviour
  • Support with routine administrative tasks as required e.g. photocopying, filing, checking deliveries and placing goods in stock and maintaining records of stock, reproducing work sheets for agreed activities.

SUPPORT FOR THE ACADEMY

  • Be aware of and comply with policies relating to child protection, health & safety, confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection, reporting all concerns to a nominated person.
  • Contribute to the overall work, smooth running and ethos of the Academy.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Participate in the Academy’s Performance Management process.

TRAINING

  • To participate in training as arranged with the apprentice team and training provider
  • To participate in OAIOS training as appropriate

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications /
  • GCSE English and maths at A*-C or level 2 equivalent

Experience, Skills and knowledge /
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of the academy’s Health and Safety policy
  • Ability to motivate and encourage children to meet their targets for learning and/or behaviour
  • Understanding of the practical application of Equal Opportunities in an Academy context

  • Experience of working in a school or academy setting
  • Involved in an extra curricular (such as youth work) activity
  • Experience of working with a class teacher to plan learning activities and resources
  • Experience of working with children and young people
