On Thursday 14th December the seniors section held- their annual Presentation and Christmas dinner when forty-eight senior members sat down for an excellent turkey dinner prepared by Hayley and her family staff.
The meal followed the eighteen holes of golf played by forty-five senior members with the format being a stableford competition Turkey trot with the prizes in the form of vouchers with Gate 2 Plate of Freystrop.
Owain Picton secretary of the senior section acted as MC for the presentation; firstly, he went through the order of the presentation before thanking all the officers and committee of the section for their assistance through- out the year which certainly made his job much easier especially them sticking to their duty roster. He thanked john Clarke for the plinths that he had made for the new competition trophies which had been introduced in the last few years; John was presented a bottle for his assistance from the senior section.
Owain went on to give a short thank you from retiring President Bobby Bird who because of personal reasons was unable to carry on as President; he thanked the seniors for their support on his golf day which raised £236.00 for “Megan’s Charity”; which is his great grand daughter who earlier in the year went to America for a VBT Spine operation and since the operation had grown nearly six inches and at present is making excellent progress; she goes regular to London for X-rays with the results forwarded to the hospital which carried out the operation and will be going out to America in the new year for a further checkup. Bobby asked to give his best wishes to Roy John who will be taking over from him.
Owain then handed over to Phil Davies the retiring captain who welcomed the members and thanked them for their support in his term of office before going on to present the prizes for the winners of the days competition. The annual presentation took part with Phil presenting the trophies to the following winners assisted by Mike Durward and Chris Naylor who presented the trophies which they had donated to the senior section;

After the presentation the seniors went down to the club’s restaurant for their excellent meal all washed down with a few glasses of their favorite wine.
On returning upstairs the retiring captain Phil Davies gave his final speech thanking the staff of the club for all their help during his year of office from Elliot in the Pro-shop; Hayley and her kitchen staff; Wyn and his bar staff not forgetting Kevin and his green staff for the way the course was present through out the year with many compliments coming from all the clubs we have played at home.
He went on to give a short report of the funnier miss haps by the senior’s members which has happened in his year of office with Bert Jones being mentioned on more than one occasion.
He thanked the treasurer Ivor McKenzie for his support throughout the year; Brian Keen for the checking of the cards and printing out the results week after week; Peter Derbyshire for providing the music on more than one occasion and Owain Picton for his support and organization throughout the year
; Phil went on to present gifts to the four persons named.
After Phil speech it was left to the treasurer to thank the catering and bar staff for their help throughout the year and present Hayley with a tip from the senior section which had been collected by Roy John seniors new President.
Ivor went on to present peter Derbyshire for providing the music on his guitar on other occasions and looking forward to him playing later.
Mike Durward and Owain Picton carried out the raffle with enough prizes donated by the seniors plus raffle prizes from Chris Pettit and Tony Jones of Molson Coors to provide a prize each for the seniors.
Phil then went on to hand over the captaincy along with the Seniors captains tie to Alan Dennison the incoming new captain wishing him well for his term in office and hope that he enjoys his term of office as much as he has and hope that the seniors gives him the same support.
Alan thanked Phil for asking him to be captain of the senior’s and is looking forward to his year as captain. He stated that he has already organized the day trip to The Mond Golf Club which is in Swansea in June and the seniors tour will be in September at “St Pierre”. Alan ended by congratulating Phil on his excellent year as Milford Haven Golf Club senior’s captain.
After the photographs was taken the seniors enjoyed Peter and his guitar; singing many of the old songs assisted by a few of the seniors with a few jokes and songs.
Another excellent day came to the end when the wives came and picked up the tired seniors and a few very merry ones.
