We are so excited to perform our first band concert for you! In order to be fully prepared, we will have a mandatory after school rehearsal on stage (5% of their performance grade).

7th grade rehearsal– Wednesday Sept. 20, 4:00-5:30 – please pick your child up in front of the school promptly at 5:30. (If student athletes have a play-off game, they will be excused from rehearsal)

8th grade – Thursday, Sept. 21 (concert day) 4:00-5:30. This is the day of the concert, so 8th graders will just stay at school to rehearse and then eat a snack (see link below to sign up to provide snacks) before warm-up. They will need to bring their concert clothes with them to school in the morning and we will store them in the band room. Please bring them on a hanger, shoes in a plastic grocery bag (or something similar) attached to the hanger WITH YOUR NAME. 8th grade parents, I would like to provide a small snack to the 8th graders between rehearsal/concert time. If you are able, please go to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E084CADA82EA02-snacks to sign up to provide 8th graders a snack. Of course, they may also bring their own snack from home.

For the concert, students must wear their band shirt tucked in with black from the waist down (including shoes). A reminder that shorts, athletic pants, jeans or leggings (unless under a skirt) are not appropriate attire on stage. Our goal is to be solid black from the waist down for a uniform look. Students should keep accessories to a minimum. Band shirts will arrive no later than Sept. 19.

Our concert will take place in the gym at 6:30. Students must report at 6:00 for tuning and warm up and the doors to the gym will be open at that time for audience members to find seating. We will have reserved handicap seating for those in need. Please plan on time for parking. If you live within walking distance, you might consider walking to the school as parking can be an issue. Please drop your child off for warm-up before trying to find parking. The concert should conclude no later than 7:30. Students are expected to remain for the entire concert. If they leave before the conclusion of the concert, points will be deducted.

We all deserve a sweet treat after a great performance, right? After the concert, Cold Stone Creamery on Power Road will donate 20% of proceeds to the SMS Band. So, go enjoy a sweet treat!

At the conclusion of the concert, our 8th grade band students will be responsible for “striking” the stage and the gym to get it ready for Friday morning. Each section will be assigned a specific job that should take about 10 minutes.

Please do not hesitate emailing me with questions or concerns.

Jennifer Juarros, SMS Band Director
