Unanimous decisions are not necessary to reach a decision / Often accused of being too bureaucratic and wasteful of funds,, successive Secretary-Generals have also been criticised for supposed political bias & forced to resign
THE SECRETARIAT
/ Based in the Hague, it deals with international disputes and cases of crimes against humanity / An humanitarian organisation that has helped the victims of wars, famines and droughts / Has too much to do like many other bodies of the Economic and Social Council, and children remain vulnerable

/ The bureaucracy of the UNO it is headed by they powerful Secretary-General / An anti-imperialist body that aims to give self-determination to peoples / Like many Social and Economic Council bodies has too much to do in a world that still abuses and exploits children
THE FAO
/ The direct successor to the identical League organisation it is designed to improve working conditions / Dominated by the most powerful nations in the world it has real muscle and will act militarily if necessary / IMF loans usually come with stringent terms and often leave poorer nations continually in debt
UNICEF
/ Designed to look after former mandates and oversee their progress to independence from their old colonial masters / Has dome much to campaign against child labour and in 1979 declared the Year of the Child / A talking shop that can become bogged down in procedure and factionalism

UNRRA & UNRWA
/ Composed of five permanent members &10 temporary members. For a decision to be binding 9 out of 15 must agree and the 5 permanent members must not veto / Has looked at various new crops and farming methods to try and optimise yields and so feed people on less land / At times has been overwhelmed by the crises it has faced and has often had to be helped by private charities
