2016grant APPLICATION guidelines
About eulipions:
Eulipions, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that fosters, promotes, and preserves artistic expression with an emphasis on Colorado African-American heritage and lifestyles. In November 2000, Eulipions, Inc. sold the historic El Jebel Shrine Temple, their home since 1995, and used the funds to establish The Eulipions Fund at The Denver Foundation. Earnings from the fund are used to provide grants to generate, assist, increase, and encourage the performing arts in Colorado African American Communities. Currently, grantees are selected annually.
WHAT WE FUND:
Applications are accepted for general operating support and funding for specific performances or programs. To qualify for a grant from The Eulipions Fund an organization must:
- generate, assist, increase, and/or encourage performing arts in Colorado African American Communities.
- be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization or have a fiscal sponsor with this status.
With very rare exceptions, grants are NOT made for the following:
- Membership, affiliation campaigns, or dinners
- Creation or installation of art objects
- Debt retirement
- Endowments or other reserve funds
- Grants that further political or religious doctrine
- Travel or vehicle purchases
- Writing, publication, or distribution of books, articles, newsletters, or electronic media
- Capital campaigns
- Sabbaticals or fellowships
WHEN TO APPLY:
Applications must be received via emailby 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015. Late applications will not be considered. We do not accept proposals by facsimile or mail.
We anticipate that the proposal requests will exceed our available resources and would like to thank grant seekers in advance for the work that goes into their proposals. We will send a letter to each applicant organization about our funding decisions on or before January 15, 2016.
PREVIOUS GRANT RECIPIENTS:
Organizations that have received funding from Eulipions in the past are welcome to apply for additional funding, provided that their final report has been received by The Denver Foundation before a new application is submitted.

Be sure to include all of the items. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Before emailing your proposal, please visit denverfoundation.org for tips on how best to do this.
Please note: If you email your proposal and do not receive an email confirmation within 24 hours, contact the Grants Manager at 720-974-2600 to verify that your proposal was received.
The Denver Foundation occasionally shares information about potential grantees with donors who have created donor-advised funds at The Denver Foundation. If you do not want your proposal or proposal analysis shared with fundholders, please let us know in your cover letter.
A. COVER LETTER
One page addressing how a grant will generate, assist, increase, or encourage the performing arts in the Colorado African American Community. Also include the amount of funding you are requesting, a brief description of your organization, and the name, address, and phone number of a contact person. The letter must be signed by the executive director and either the president, board chairman, or owner.
B. NARRATIVE
The length of your narrative section should not exceed three pages. Please include the following information:
1. Organization Information
a. Mission statement, goals, and objectives
b. Brief summary of the organization’s history
c. Description of current and past performances and/or programs
d. Include photos and links to YouTube, Spotify, Facebook, etc.
e. Information about volunteer involvement and in-kind contributions
2. Purpose of Grant
a. Description of the performance or program, the desired audience, and the
estimated size of the audience
b. Description of other goals and objectives related to the performance
c. Description of activities planned to accomplish these goals, such as the
number of people to be employed and/or contracted to put on the performance
d. Timetable for implementation and date(s) of performance or program
e. Other entities participating in the activity
f. Long term sources/strategies for funding at the end of grant period
3. Evaluation
a. Expected results during and after the funding period
b. How success will be defined and measured
C. MOST RECENT 501(c)(3) DETERMINATION LETTER OR INFORMATION ABOUT THE
APPLICANT’S FISCAL SPONSOR
Eulipions will consider proposals for funding from organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) status if they have an organization with 501(c)(3) status willing to serve as a fiscal sponsor. The fiscal sponsor must understand that it is the grant recipient and, as such, has full legal and fiduciary responsibility for how the grant funds are expended. In order to consider a request under these circumstances, the following items are required as part of the grant application:
- A letter signed by the 501(c)(3) organization’s Executive Director stating that the organization agrees to act as the fiscal sponsor for the applicant, recognizes its legal and fiduciary responsibility for any grant monies that may be received for the non-501(c)(3), and will not charge the non-501(c)(3) a fee or percentage for administering any funds received.
- A copy of the 501(c)(3) organization’s most recent 501(c)(3) determination letter.
D. FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The following paragraphs explain which financial documents are required. The terms used in this section (such as balance sheet, revenue and expense statement, etc.) have specific meanings in the financial world. If you have any questions about terminology, please check with the person in your organization who is responsible for your financial reporting. Applicants may be asked to provide additional year-to-date financial information. Please note: Your organization’s IRS Form 990 is not acceptable for providing financial information to accompany your grant proposal.
- Operating Budget: All proposals, whether for general operating support or support for a specific performance or program, must include the organization’s overall operating budget for the current fiscal year. All budgets must include both revenue and expenses.
- Performance/Program Budget, if applicable: Performance/program requests must include the revenue and expense budget for the performance/program. This is in addition to the overall operating budget noted above.
- Current (Year-to-Date) Financial Statements: Revenue and expense statement and balance sheet (including assets and liabilities) for the current fiscal year, up to and through the most recently completed operating month.
- Most recent End of Year Financial Statements: Revenue and expense statement and
balance sheet (including assets and liabilities) for the most recently completed fiscal
year.
- List of Major Contributors: Please submit a list for the most recently completed
fiscal year.
Organizations applying with a fiscal agent should submit number 1, 3, 4, and 5 for their fiscal agent and number 1, 2, and 5 for their organization.
