ICASA to hold public hearings in respect of draft Numbering Plan Regulations

Johannesburg – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (“ICASA”) will hold public hearings in respect of the draft Numbering Plan Regulations, GG 38908 (“the draft Regulations”) and the Erratum, GG 39404 (“the Erratum”).

On 26 June and 13 November 2015 published the draft Numbering Plan Regulations and Erratum respectively. The main purpose of the draft Regulations is to provide and ensure the enforceability of the Toll-free framework and to release an additional 40 million numbers to cater for the growing demand of mobile services. The Erratum is to provide supportive text to assist with the machine related services migration and implementation thereof as well as the introduction of the short code strategy.

On 7 August and 3 December 2015 we received written representations from 7 and 5 interested parties on the draft Regulations and Erratum respectively. All the interested parties listed below indicated their willingness to participate in public hearings should ICASA deem it fit to hold them.

The public hearings shall be held as follows:
