Annabelle Paredes Acedera

Annabelle P. Acedera is the Director of Libraries, Xavier University (XU). She joined XU in 1968 and worked in various capacities as Periodicals Librarian, “Reference Librarian, Head of Readers Services and Head of Technical Services. In 1980 she was appointed Director of Libraries. She also holds the position of Area Director, American Studies Resource Center, Xavier University, since November 1984.

In September 9, 1989, Ms. Acedera spearheaded the founding of the Cagayan de Oro Cooperating Libraries a cooperative endeavor of academic libraries in Cagayan de Oro City. The membership has grown to 52 academic libraries from various areas in Region X, XI, and XIII and the consortium has been renamed Academic Libraries Information Network in Mindanao. She currently serves as president of this library cooperation.

Ms. Acedera is a member of several national library associations and was president of Misamis Oriental Library Association in 1977 and 1981. She served as officer of the Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Services Association (ALBASA), Inc. and is a member of the board of the Philippine Library Materials Project Foundation (PLMP), Inc. She has served as chair for the area on Libraries on the accreditation teams of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities since 1998.

Aside from participation in local and national conferences, seminars and training programs, Ms. Acedera has presented papers in various parts of the country. She teaches library science part-time and handles review classes for the librarians’ board exams of the Misamis Oriental Library Association and the University of San Carlos Department of Library Science.

In 1991, Ms. Acedera received a travel grant (28 days) under the International Visitor Program of the United States Embassy. She is also a recipient of the 1999 PAARL Academic and Research Librarian Award and the 2003 Most Outstanding USC Alumna in the field of Library Science from the Carolinians, Incorporated, the Alumni Association of the University of San Carlos.

Ms. Acedera received her Masters of Science in Library Science degree from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, under a fellowship grant from the Fund for Assistance to Private Education.
