MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 19, 2013 MEETING

Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham called the meeting to order at 7:01 P.M.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Chairman, Sue Cannon, Edward Lanati, Barbara Sullivan, and Frances Urbank.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Director, and John Sullivan, Municipal Agent.

ABSENT: William Hamel, Douglas Hamilton, Gary McGuire, and Roger Nelson.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Barbara Sullivan, and seconded by Sue Canon; the January 22, 2013 minutes were approved. Upon a motion by Sue Cannon, and seconded by Frances Urbank; the January 29, 2013 minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurer’s Report provided by the Finance Dept. Discussion followed on account financial information.

PUBLIC INPUT: N/A.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the January 2013 report. Upon a motion by Barbara Sullivan and seconded by Edward Lanati, the Bus Coordinators Report was accepted.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report.

Ø  Programs and Upcoming events: The Scan Highlight for March will be the Transportation Program and chance to win a free bus pass. Combined programs to be held are Wii with East Windsor on Feb. 13 but Bingo with Windsor has been postponed. The Valentine Party is scheduled for Feb. 20, working on the Heart Association Fund Raiser, AARP Tax Service is every Monday through April 8 and the AARP Safety Driver Course is scheduled for Monday, April 15 from 9 to 1 PM. Locks Fitness Center had approximately 204 visits.

Ø  Chartered Trips include Washington D.C. Cherry Blossoms/Mount Vernon; West Point Dress Parade with lunch at Hotel Thayer; Texas Tenors includes Foxwoods Bonus Package; Connecticut Dixieland Cruise on the Lady Katharine, Haddam, CT Buffet Lunch and Dixieland Band; Deana & Ricci Martin includes Foxwoods Bonus Package; Cruise on The Schooner Argia Mystic and a new trip to Tanglewood, Sunday, July 7, Boston Pops with Keith Lockhart and Vince Gill, Lunch at Cork ‘N Hearth Restaurant, $111. Foxwoods trip is March 12 at 8:00 AM and Mohegun Sun is Sunday, March 24 @ 1:30 PM. Both are $16 per person.

Ø  Center trip to the Connecticut Flower/Garden Show on Feb. 22 @ 10 AM for $14.00.

Ø  Also informed that Silver & Fit access to Locks Fitness Center is on hold pending further investigation, review of bus schedules ongoing to eliminate short trips, status of Coffin Trust money for the Senior Center, Memorial Plaque display room and possibility of adjoining house being for sale.

COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS:

a)  Transportation Committee: Policy and Procedures Recommendations. No Report.

b)  Community Outreach Committee: No Report.

MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: John Sullivan reported on his experience with a new Walk-in Clinic located on Hazard Avenue in Enfield and Senior Discount programs which he will cover in the March Scan and for April, he is planning on guidelines on purchasing a car as well as the Connecticut Law regarding prices being rung up incorrectly.

OLD BUSINESS: N/A.

NEW BUSINESS:

a)  F.Y.2013-2014 Budget Presentation & Discussion. Lengthy discussion regarding the CONA budget presentation, ideas to increase our revenue via fee increases or fundraisers, senior usage at other comparable Senior Centers as well as the increased position responsibilities for the Assistant Director. It was recommended that the Transportation Sub Committee research possible increases in fees.

Upon a motion by Edward Lanati and seconded by Barbara Sullivan, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
