Congratulations on your selection as a 2018 SDNA Representative Squad member.

Springvale and District Netball Association have a long, proud and successful history and it is a great honour to be chosen as a Representative Player.

Along with this honour, comes the requirement of commitment - both as a player and parent.

SQUAD COMMITMENT

Rep players are expected to show an increased level of commitment and responsibility of your sport. Individually they are looked upon as valuable members of the team. Each time they wear the SDNA uniform, they are representingour association, your club, your team, and of course themselves and your family. Players are expected to show pride in our colours!

Other obligations are:

  • Behaviours that exhibit respect for coaches, good sportsmanship towards your team and opponents
  • Netball Victoria’s Player and parent code of conduct obligations
  • Commitment to training schedule (Mondays during the school terms in 2016)
  • Commitment to playing to the tournaments scheduled (March to Sep)
  • Commitment to the weekly competition ( excluding 11s)
  • Financial commitments fulfilled within the required timeframe
  • Commitment to overnight Tournament trip

FEES

Squad fees include the costs associated with tournamententries, provision of umpiresfor tournaments, equipment, trophies, presentation night and our overnight trip to Shepparton and coach remuneration.

For the nominated teams playing Jells Park Competition it will also include the weekly game fees, team reg and umpire costs for the Thursday competition. At this stage 13s and 15 open are the teams nominated for Jells.

Uniform items are additional.

A payment plan has been pre-determined for all families. The payments required will be as follows:

We apologise that SDNA cannot honour any individual special payment plans.Non payment of fees or failure to honour payment instalments will unfortunately result in your child not being eligible to represent Springvale.

The SDNA squad fees have not been determined at the time of this publication, however a guestimate is;

11s approx. $395 plus uniform purchases

13 open/ reserve and 15 open $495 plus uniform purchases
15 reserve and 17s approx. $395 plus uniform purchases

UNIFORM

SDNA Squad uniform requirements for purchase include the training shorts, training top, socks, rugby top and hoodie. green bike pants.

Mandatory items for purchase are: training top & green bike pants.

Mandatory items for hire are the A line dress & tracksuit totalling $100.

A uniform fitting day will be scheduled is planned for 9am-11amSaturday Nov 25th 2017for new 13s and 15s players only requiring uniforms.

Uniform orders can be paid for via eftpos.

An additional uniform date will be planned for 1st Feb 2018 for 11s and 17s.

At the conclusion of the squad year, and on a nominated date your hired items (subject to condition) can be returned and you shall receive $50.

A complimentary squad training bag is also provided free of charge to our new players in 2018.

TRAINING

Training for all squad teams will be held every Monday night (unless advised) at the Rowan Rd Netball Complex.

All age groups: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
2018meet your coach/ pre season training sessions are scheduled for Monday 4th & 11thDecember; 6:00 pm-7:30pm:

A training & tournament calendar will be provided during February 2017.

It is always expected that you notify your coach if you are unable to attend a training session.

Training attire must be worn at all training sessions; Green SDNA shorts (preferably) and yellow SDNA top
( mandatory). Tracksuits are to be worn at tournaments only ie not at training.

For the interim for those that need to acquire SDNA training gear, your child is encouraged to wear, black shorts, bike pants or leggings with a white t shirt.

Where we might have adverse weather conditions for training, our head coach will make the decision to cancel training. This may not be done until 30 mins – an hour training. Coaches will be advised and will in turn advise you via text or Facebook.We would very much appreciate that parents do not email SDNA or contact your coaches with an enquiry about training cancellation.

MID WEEK SQUAD COMMITMENTS FOR 2018
Further to tournaments, the squad commitment includes a mid week commitment to further develop and strengthen their team. We have registered our 13 open and reserve teams and 15 open into the Waverley Night Netball Competition and the 2018 autumn season commences 1sFebruary 2018. The venue location is Waverley Netball Centrecnr Waverley and Jells Rds, Glen Waverley. Travelling on east link to Ferntree Gully Rd exit is the most efficient way. You will be provided with a season fixture closer to the season commencement. Games will be on a Wednesday night for 17s, and a Thursday night for 13s and 15s.

Thereis no mid week commitment for the 11s.

And at the time of publication there is not mid week commitment for the 2018 15 reserve and 17 side.

Season 2 plans at Jells will be considered and discussed with coaches a little further into the calendar year.

TOURNAMENTS
Once we have confirmation of tournaments scheduled, we shall provide you with a tournament calendar. It is expected that our 11s will experience 7 tournaments and our 13s, 15s and 17s, 4 -5 tournaments (tbc)

•tournaments are played in a ‘round robin’ format

•games per tournament varies on the host and teams entered, court availability etc (between 4 - 8 plus finals

•u11s do not play finals

•games are usually 2 x 7 min halves

•fixture and times can usually be access on host association websites a few days before tournaments

•all players are required to attend the whole day of a tournament - approximately 8am - 4pm

•the under 11s day is usually 8:00am – 2:00pm

•parents are responsible for arranging transport to and from tournaments

•player unavailability - please ensure that you provide your coach with as much notice as possible regarding unavailability. If a player is unable to play the whole day, it is possible that he/ she may choose to schedule an alternative player

WHAT TO PACK FOR A TOURNAMENT
Players are provided with a SDNA squad bag. Please ensure that your bag contains the following for tournaments

•Drink bottle

•1 towel

•2 pairs of socks

•1 small blanket (during cold weather)

•Sunscreen

•Other personal needs like nail clippers, hair pins and ties etc

•Players are advised to leave any personal belongings, including jewellery at home

•Your squad dress, green bike pants and tracksuit is the required uniform for tournaments

•Training tops and rugby tops are NOT to be brought to tournaments

TOURNAMENTPREPARATION

  • Eat a suitable meal the night before and ensure adequate fluid intake the previousday
  • Have sufficient sleep the night prior!!!!
  • Ensure a good high protein breakfast has been eaten
  • Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the nominated time. Parking can sometimes be difficult, girls need to familiarise themselves with courts and ensure that suitable warm-up time has taken place
  • No jewellery to be worn at tournaments.
  • Nails to be cut (not tapped).
  • All players must be strapped and/or taped if necessary prior to arriving at trainingor tournaments.
  • Team should stay together as best a possible ie please do not wander off without first checking with your coach/manager.
  • All players are expected to support the team whether playing or not
  • Please pack sustainable energy foods for snacking throughout the day:
    sandwiches, jellies, fruits, nuts etc
  • Try and avoid foods available at the tournament until your games have concluded

TOURNAMENTPROTOCOLS
The squad coach may consider a number of factors in determining his/her team for an upcoming tournament. Selection can be dependent upon attendance at training; previous tournament performance; effort and attitude; fitness and skill level; and team balance.

Please be prepared for players to possibly play in court positions which are different from their usual club position. Equal court time for players is a coaches challenge and cannot be guaranteed as they need to consider strengths and weaknesses collectively, match ups and the like. Players and parents are to respectfully accept the decision of the coach and should you wish to understand such decisions, please discuss with your coach directly.

TOURNAMENT RECOGNITION
Your coach will acknowledge team and individual performance at the training session following a tournament. Parents are welcomed to attend at the commencement of your training time. A certificate shall be provided to a player deemed “most valuable” on tournament day.

SDNA HOST TOURNAMENT
Around mid-August, SDNA hosts a squad tournament. This is traditionally a well organised and successful tournament and SDNAs major fundraising event in the calendar year. It’s success largely relies on squad family support. More information will follow later on in the year regarding this.

TEAM MANAGER ROLE
Each team will require a parent to volunteer as Team Manager. The role of a team manager is an important one for both SDNA committee and your squad coach. Your team will not function effectively without one.The role includes:

  • Liaising with all team members andparents as required
  • Support & Liaison to coach & SDNA committee
  • Courtside assistance at tournaments including jackets, drinks etc collected after each game
  • Ensuring all equipment is safe, the first aid kit is ready for use
  • Ensuring the score sheet and any other rules/regulations of the competition are carried out on game day
  • Prepare a roster for parents to assist with scoring at tournaments and Thursday nights
  • Supervision of players during tournament ( ie make sure they are ready to go on court on time)
  • Responsible for arranging for team parents to support marquee transportation and set up ( 1- 2 times during the year)
  • Assist the players off court if injured including seeking appropriate first aid attention

SQUAD PRESENTATION NIGHT
Scheduled during September will be a celebration to acknowledge all those who made the year that it was. Your support in attending is encouraged. A coaches award (for the year) is announced.

PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES

•Enjoy your involvementin the rep team

•Be proud of your selection and achievement

•As a rep player you are expected to be available for listed events as required by your coach

•Attend all training sessions

•Illness and injury excuses are accepted – however, wherever possible still attend and observe

•Correct uniform is required at training at all times

•Perform at best, be positive and encouraging

•Represent SDNA positively

•Need to play at club level at SDNA for the year

•Contact coach if absent from training or tournaments

•Ensure that Netball Victoria code of conduct for players is followed

PARENT RESPONSIBIITLITES

•Providing a supportive and positive environment for their child. You play a significant part in ensuring the rep experience is enjoyable and rewarding for your child

•Ensure that all outstanding fees are paid prior to tournaments or payment plan well established

•Assistance on tournament days setting up the marquees and packing up at the end of the day

•Keep abreast of communication products and information that has been provided to you

•Address matters of concern through the right channels

•Leave it to the coach to the coach

•A volunteer to become a team manager

•Provide additional support and assistance on SDNA Tournamentday (April 21) such as BBQ, Canteen etc ( a roster is arranged)

•Exhibit behaviour at all times that is in accordance with Netball Victoria’s parent code of conduct

•Promote healthy competitive attitudes for trying hard and having fun

•Encourage your child to give it their best and enjoy themselves

•Encourage your child to sit with their team and coach. It is important for the team to mix up as a group.

•As parents, we expect the coach to be positive and supportive of your child, so if we all develop the same philosophy the whole experience will be one of mutual respect and understanding

•Expect that any inappropriate behaviour be treated with a ZERO tolerancephilosophy

COMMUNICATION

Should parents have questions or matters of concern they wish to discuss, we request that in the first instance you discuss with your squad coordinator ….

Should anyone have any queries, concerns, grievances in regards to the Coaching, Players, etc.you are required to discuss (or put in writing) to the attention of our head coach Claire Houben…. This will allow an independent review and resolve of the situation, circumstances and ensure minimal disruption to continuation of Squad Responsibilities.
