YOUNGAGRICULTURALECONOMISTAWARD

(1)AgriculturalEconomicsResearchAssociation(India)hasinstitutedvariouscategoriesof Awardsforrecognizingthemeritoriousanddistinguishedagriculturaleconomists.Oneofthese is theYoungAgricultural EconomistAward(YAEAward).

(2)TheprimaryobjectiveofthisAwardistorecognizeandencouragerelativelyyoung agriculturaleconomistsofpromiseandcreativitydemonstratedthroughtheircontributionsto agricultural economicsresearch,education andpolicystudies.

(3)TheAwardwillconsistofacitationandprizemoneyofRs25000(twentyfivethousand). ThereshallbeoneAwardforeachcalendaryear.However,thePresidentofAERA,athis discretion,maynotdeclaretheAwardinsomeyears.

(4)Eligibility:Thefollowingwill beeligiblefor theAward:

(a)He/sheshouldbeacitizenor national of India,Nepal or Bhutan.

(b)He/sheshouldbe belowtheageof40years on1stJanuaryoftheyear ofAward.

(c)He/sheshouldbeeither(a)alifememberor(b)anannualmember,ofAERAforatleast twoyearspriorto1stJanuaryoftheYearofAward.Further,thosefulfilling condition(b)should havebeen enrolledas lifememberofAERA on1stMarchofYear ofAward.

(d)He/sheshouldholdaMaster’sdegreeinAgriculturalEconomics(includingdairyeconomics, fisherieseconomicsandveterinaryeconomicswithspecializationinagriculture) or Economics,followedbya Ph.D.degreeinAgriculturalEconomics or EconomicsfromanyIndianuniversityincorporatedbyanActof ParliamentorstatelegislatureinIndiaorothereducationalinstitutionsestablishedbyanActof ParliamentordeclaredtobedeemeduniversitybyUGCorfromaforeignuniversityrecognized as equivalenttoabove bytheGovernmentof India.

(e)He/sheshouldhaveworkedorservedinIndiaforatleastthreeyearsason1stJanuaryof theyear ofAward in the field of agriculture.

(f)He/sheshould bethe main(first) authorinatleasttwopublications listed inPartB2,B3and B4oftheNominationForm.

(5)NominationsforAward:There shall benodirectapplicationfor theaward.

(a)Eachyear,thenominations,intheprescribedformat,willbeinvited,throughanotification ontheAERAwebsiteorothermethodsdeemedfit,usuallyduringthemonthofJanuaryofthe

yearofAward.Forexample,for2018Award,thenotificationwillbeissuedinthemonthof January2018.Itcouldbeevenamonthor twoearlier.

(b)The lastdate forreceiptofnominations inAERAoffice(hard copy) will be usually31stMarch oftheyearofAward.Thenominationshouldbedulysignedbythenominator/proposeraswell asbythenomineeatalltheplacesprovidedintheformat.Havingsignedbyboth,itcouldbe submitted(byeitherthecandidateornominator/proposer)addressedtotheSecretaryAERA. ThehardcopiesofthefollowingshouldbeattachedwiththeNominationForm:(i)documents asproofofeacheligibilitycriterion;(ii)reprintsof10bestresearchpapers(listedinB-2)and otherpublications(listed inB-5); (c)copiesofbooks (listedinB-3) andResearchReports (listed inB-4);and(d)documentaryproofofAwards,Honours andRecognitions (listedinB-67).

(c)Theauthorizednominator/proposerforthispurposecouldbeanyoneofthefollowing:(i) PastPresidentofAERA;(ii)Past ConferencePresidentofAERA;and(iii)NAASFellow(Fellowof NationalAcademyofAgriculturalSciences-India)inthedisciplineofagriculturaleconomicsof social sciencesection.

(6)Selection/EvaluationCriteriaand Procedure

(a)Thecriteriaforselectionwillbeacademicexcellencebasedonscientificcontributionsas reflectedbypublications,outputs,outcomes,processesandimpactintheareasofagricultural economics research, teaching,policyanalysis,innovations andextension education.

(b)Foreachyear,aselectioncommittee,consistingofthefollowing,willevaluatethe nominationsand recommend oneortwonames(inorderofmerit)tothePresidentofAERA:(i) OneofthepastPresidentsorconferencePresidentsofAERA(chair);(ii)SecretaryofAERA;(iii) ChiefEditorofAERR/AERA,and(iv)oneortwolifemembersofAERAtobenominatedbythe President.

(c)Theallocationofmarks for differentcriteriawill beas follows:

(i)10BestResearchPapers:Maximum30marks.PaperspublishedinAgriculturalEconomics ResearchReview(AERR),IndianJournalofAgriculturalEconomics(IJAE)andEconomicand PoliticalWeeklyshallreceive3marksandthatinotherjournalsshallreceiveproportionately moreorlessmarksasper2017NAASscoreoftheJournal.Incaseofmultipleauthorsofthe paper,firsttwoauthors will getfull marks andsubsequentauthors will gethalfthemarks.

(ii)Booksand/orResearchReports:Maximum20marks.Eachmayscoreamaximumof4 marks.Editedbookswillgetamaximumof2marks.Thefirstandsecondauthorswillgetfull marksand subsequentauthorswillget halfthemarks.Externallyfunded project reportswillget highermarks thaninstitutional projectreports.

(iii)Otherpublications:FordetailsseeNominationForm-B.Maximum10marks.Tobe evaluatedbyselection committee.

(e)Maximummarks for‘Awardsand Honours’is20marks.Internationaland nationalawardsof highreputewillget4markseachandfellowshipofnationalacademieswillalsoget4marks. Awardsbynationalinstituteswillfetch2marks.YoungScientistawardorassociateswillalso fetch2marks each.

(f)Maximummarksfor‘Recognitions’is10marks.Thiswillincludenationallevelrecognitions (notcovered above)byprofessional societies/associationsandmayinclude fellowships,lifetime achievementaward,President,ChiefEditororSecretarylevelpositionswhichshallcarryone markeach.

(g)ThenameoftherecipientofAwardshallbenormallydeclaredinthemonthofJuly/August. TheselectedpersonshallbeinformedandtheAwardshallbeconferredduringtheensuing annual conferenceofAERA.

Note:Theobjectiveoflayingdowntheseguidelinesistoimpartobjectivityandtransparencyin selectionofyoungagriculturaleconomistfortheaward.Aswegainexperience,a comprehensivereviewofthesewill beundertakenfromtimeto timetofurther improvethese.
