PepsiCo Chief Scientific Officer Mehmood Khan Joins CTO Forum Executive Board

Santa Clara, California – September 11, 2013 –The CTO Forum and PepsiCo today announced that Dr. Mehmood Khan, Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for PepsiCo, has been appointed to the CTO Forum Advisory Board. The CTO Forum brings together senior technology executives and business leaders in order to discuss and collaborate on key technology issues facing the industry and to accelerate innovation across organizations.

In his role at PepsiCo, starting in 2007, Mehmood Khan has led astrategic transformation to transform, grow and continually enhance the company’s global portfolio of high-quality food and beverage offerings.Under his leadership, the R&D team has led the development of importantnutrition platforms such as fruits and vegetables, dairy, baked grains,and hummus and other fresh dips.

Over the past six years, in an effort to further develop categories and capture the growth opportunities of the future, the R&D function hasexpanded its research capabilities by recruiting highly regarded clinicaland food scientists, global health leaders and medical experts, inaddition to launching research projects with leading universitiesworldwide. In 2012 alone, PepsiCo opened three new R&D centers ofexcellence: in Hamburg, Germany, Shanghai; China; and Monterrey, Mexico.

Before joining PepsiCo, Dr. Khan was President, Takeda Global Research & Development Center, overseeing its worldwide research and developmentefforts with sales of over $10 billion worldwide. Previous to thatposition, Dr. Khan was a consultant endocrinologist and faculty member atthe Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn., serving alsoas the Director of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutritional Trials Unit inthe division of endocrinology. Prior to the Mayo Clinic, he spent nineyears leading programs in diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, andnutrition including as Chief of Endocrinology for the Hennepin CountyMedical Center in Minneapolis, University of MN. He has served as facultyboth in the department of Food Sciences, College of Agriculture and theMedical School at the University of MN.

Dr. Khan serves on a number of national and state committees including as a Governor of the New York Academy of Sciences, a member of the State ofIllinois Innovation Council and a member of the Board of the AmericanDiabetes Association Research Foundation as well as several humanitarianorganizations. He earned his medical degree from the University ofLiverpool Medical School, England, and completed a fellowship in clinicalendocrinology and nutrition at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis¹Department of Medicine and Food Science and Nutrition.
