Classroom Teacher

This is a full time position which is in line with school teachers pay and conditions document.

Main purpose of the job

To take responsibility for the education and welfare of a designated class of children in accordance with the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document, having due regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum and LA and school policies.

Main Activities

  1. To take responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for all children and young people in the designated class/cohort, within the framework of national and school policies.
  1. To maintain assessment records and report on children and young people’s progress to senior staff and to parents and carers, in accordance with school policy.
  1. To lead and manage additional adults within the classroom.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. To take up the opportunity for continuous professional development through self-directed reading, courses and in-service training.
  1. To plan work for the class in accordance with national and school curriculum policies and in co-operation with phase leaders to ensure that the children experience a broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating curriculum.
  1. To ensure a close match between the learning experiences offered and the developmental needs of the children and young people in the class, so as to give everyone an opportunity to achieve to the maximum of his/her capability.
  1. Writing, implementing, and assessing Personalised Learning Intention Map plans, differentiating the curriculum and planning appropriate activities to meet the individual needs of the children and young people, according to school policy
  1. To create a secure, happy and stimulating classroom environment, maintaining the highest standards of organisation, and discipline.
  1. To foster each child and young person’s self-image and esteem and establish relationships which are based on mutual respect.
  1. To maintain a high standard of display both in the classroom and in other areas of the school.
  1. To arrange for resources, equipment and materials to be available in such a way that they are properly cared for, easily accessible and will encourage the children and young people to become more responsible for their own learning.
  1. To work closely with colleagues to undertake medium and short term planning; including the implementation of the curriculum plans appropriate to the developmental needs of the pupils.
  1. To assess children and young people’s progress, maintain records and provide written reports to parents and carers in accordance with school policies.
  1. To participate and lead in ensuring the personal care needs of pupils are understood and included within their educational programmes
  1. To communicate and consult with parents and carers and with outside agencies, as necessary, about children and young people’s progress and attainment.
  1. To provide reports for parents and for inter agency meetings including Person Centred reviews.
  1. To ensure that the school’s aims and objectives in relation to the curriculum, equal opportunities and discipline are promoted in every day classroom organisation and practice.
  1. To take responsibility for the leadership and management of other adults in the classroom, ensuring the effective deployment of support staff.
  1. To undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties in accordance with the changing needs of the school.
  1. To work as part of a team in all aspects of school development.
