Activities of the Regional Director March 2013 – July 2013

·  Communicated promptly with Region IV state presidents on all ASCLS matters

·  Participated in March 15-16, 2013 ASCLS Interim Board of Director’s meeting in Washington, D.C.

·  Participated in March 17-18, 2013 Legislative symposium in Washington, DC

·  Prepared Regional article for March ASCLS Today, due February 1st

·  Continue to resolve issues and respond to questions from state presidents

·  Attended ASCLS-Michigan annual meeting and Board meeting April 2-5, 2013, East Lansing, MI, served as Parliamentarian

·  Presented hematology lecture at ASCLS-Michigan, April 4, 2013, provided ASCLS Update at Board meeting.

·  Attended ASCLS-Ohio annual meeting, April 8-10, 2013, Columbus, OH

·  Provided two presentations at ASCLS-Ohio. Presented ASCLS Update at Board meeting and Membership meeting. Presented Leukemia Case studies, April 10, 2013.

·  Submitted nominees for Regional Omicron Sigma award

·  Prepared Regional article for ASCLS Today, due May 1st

·  Appointed Cathy Shaffner chair of Region IV Leadership Academy

·  Will attend ASCLS 2013 Annual meeting in Houston, TX

ASCLS- Ohio Annie Shifley

Summary of Activities:

·  Attended ASCLS-Ohio’s state meeting (Collaborative Laboratory Conference 2013), Columbus, OH.

Communications

·  The website, www.ascls-ohio.org, was updated frequently between March 2013 and the state conference in May with pertinent information pertaining to state, regional and national issues.

Board Meeting and Member Business Meeting

·  The ASCLS-Ohio Board of Directors met at the annual CLC 2013 meeting in Columbus, Ohio. The following agenda items were discussed: nominations, financial updates, the upcoming national meeting, a formal written strategic plan, society awards given to membership, a summary of the Legislative Symposium 2013 experience, and other housekeeping activities.

·  The Membership Business Meeting was held during CLC 2013. Reports from committee activities throughout the year were reported to membership.

·  The slate of nominees for open board positions was presented to the membership and nominations from the floor were addressed. The new board for the incoming year was elected.

·  Delegates for Texas were chosen and the meeting was adjourned.

Annual Meeting:

·  The Annual Collaborative Laboratory Conference 2013 took place from May 8 -10, 2013. The theme of the conference this year was, “An Exploration of Medical Laboratory Science.” The conference was co-sponsored by AACC-NE Ohio Section, ASCLS-Ohio and CLMA-First Ohio, Western Lake Erie, and Six Rivers Chapters.

·  There were over 49 informative topics presented to attendees during the 2 ½

day experience and PACE credit was provided. A large vendor exhibit, ASCLS-Ohio member bowling night, and other social functions provided many opportunities to network and socialize.

·  At the ASCLS-Ohio Member Business Meeting, nominees were elected for the positions of President, President-Elect, Recording Secretary, Senior Director and two Junior Directors. A food drive was held for Mid-Ohio Foodbank as the annual charity event for ASCLS-Ohio.

·  The Collaborative Laboratory Conference 2014 returns to Columbus, Ohio at the Crowne Plaza North Hotel.

Kentucky Society for Clinical Laboratory Science – Phil Campbell, President

Monthly Planning for Kentucky State meeting

·  Details were discussed concerning speakers, vendors, and food. One vendor has signed on so far.

·  Keynote speaker identified. Lunch choices were chosen and two vendors have signed on.

·  Details were discussed concerning speakers, vendors and food.

·  Last meeting: Program in place, moderators needed, Meals completed, seven vendors confirmed, and registrations coming in slowly. Will probably have around 55 attendees of which students will make up ¾ .

KSCLS Spring Meeting April 9, 2013

·  Approximately 75 attendees were at the meeting and students only made up one half of those present. There was a significant amount of on-site registrations. All sessions were well attended. There was only a minimal of representation of vendors.

KSCLS Board Meeting April 8, 2013

·  Reports from President, Treasurer, Secretary and committee members. Significant change: Bylaw change presented to and accepted by the Board included the addition of the New Professional as a representative to the ASCLS House of Delegates.

·  Also discussed was the future of annual state meetings. It was the decision of the Board to not have an annual meeting next spring 2014 and instead use the time to form a committee to rethink of ways to provide continuing education to medical laboratory professionals in Kentucky while still getting revenue for the state organization to send officers to the National Meeting.

KSCLS Membership Meeting April 9, 2013

·  Reports from President, Secretary, Treasurer, and committee members were presented to the membership.

·  Membership unanimously accepted a motion to change the Bylaws to accept the New Professional as a representative to the ASCLS House of Delegates.

·  Ballots were distributed for election of new officers. Michelle Butina was elected as President Elect last year and will be the new President for 2013-2014. A President Elect will be voted on next year.

ASCLS-Indiana – Erin Law, President

·  Annual Meeting: will be held Sept 25, 2013 at the Ritz-Charles in Carmel, IN in collaboration with Greater Indiana CLMA. This year’s theme is “Waves of change - Oceans of opportunities”. There will be a social event at the Indianapolis Zoo Oceans Pavilion the evening before. The program is set and registration begins the week of July 15, 2013.

·  Scholarships: ASCLS-IN Scholarship Committee awarded five ($500.00) Scholarships to CLS Students currently in Indiana programs February 7, 2013.

·  Goals for 2012-2013

·  Continue work on re-designing our website. Include board meeting minutes to assist in our effort to better communicate with the membership at large.

·  Revise ASCLS-IN bylaws to include a 2 year presidency and the new professional board position.

·  Increased communication with membership at large. This is in an effort to not only be more transparent to our membership but to encourage more active membership.

Concern: Officers needed for Board of Directors. No President Elect.
