JOB PURPOSE
· To provide recovery related interventions to support service users to build recovery community and recovery capital as part of the HART integrated treatment system
· To contribute to the reduction of substance misuse related issues
· To support service users to develop appropriate coping skills/support networks to increase positive recovery outcomes
· To be a point of contact for peer-led support and initiatives supporting the increase of visible recovery across Hartlepool

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service provision:
· To work together with Single Point of Assessment and Review Teams (SPAR) service to support the completion of service user assessments.
· Be familiar with the days assessments and times in order to meet and greet service user prior to assessment
· Meet and Greet Service users and create a welcoming atmosphere.
· To increase service users awareness of services available using resources provided
· To complete referrals for service users wishing to engage with recovery activities and meetings
· To assist in providing a package of support tailored to suit service user needs and preferences
· To encourage service user to access the wider HART treatment system and to a range of health and social care services that support their recovery
· To offer support in review sessions to assess progress against goals set to help service user get the most from treatment services and in turn enhance their recovery.
· To assist with additional projects within the placement aimed at furthering your development
· To provide support to newly appointed mentors
Performance and Personal Management
· To report punctually to the SPAR assessment location
· To inform service/ coordinator of any issues which may prevent you attending the assessments. This must be done at the earliest opportunity
· To keep a record of all assessments attended and other basic information regarding referrals
· To behave in a way which promotes a positive image of HART services.
· To expect reviews of performance and management aimed at helping you develop as a person.
· To adhere to service confidentiality and risk management procedures and to maintain safe working practices as outlined in pre-SPAR training
· Carry out assessments/ reviews and exits along-side clinicians/practitioners
· To provide information relevant to the post to help produce reports
· To ensure that clients achieve improved mental health wellbeing
· Promote whole family working with individuals
· Identify and manage recovery capital
· Help generate, inspire and motivate recovery community
· Understand the communities in which they work and all agencies operating in the locality.
· Provide signposting information to relevant alternate agencies
· Work with Colleagues within HART to help embed recovery in the community.
· Provide evening and weekend working where necessary

· Act as a mentor for volunteers and Peer Mentors
· To engage in personal and professional development
· Work towards and complete appropriate apprenticeship qualification
Service development:
· To take a lead in specific targeted service developments as required.
· To form productive working relationships with external agencies and professionals, existing and new, to ensure that service users have access to a wide range of recovery and community resources.
· To provide service users with on-going opportunities to consult on service development, working jointly to develop and deliver services, as appropriate, under the direction of management.
GENERAL DUTIES
· To personify a positive, collaborative and recovery-focused work ethic.
· To present a professional appearance, help maintain an orderly working environment and act at all times to uphold the good reputation of Lifeline Project.
· To ensure that all visitors to the service (including service users, families/carers, professionals and the general public) are welcomed in a responsive, helpful and professional manner.
· To ensure service users’ and professionals’ experience of Lifeline is positive including by taking personal responsibility for answering ringing telephones and promptly dealing with inappropriate behaviour by staff, volunteers or service users.
· To attend meetings at appointed times, maintain professional personnel and service user records where appropriate and meet deadlines.
· To work flexibly across the whole service, including providing duty, late working and weekend cover as required.
· To proactively maintain professional knowledge and practice and attend, use and contribute to supervision and team meetings effectively.
· To assess risk and safeguarding issues, undertake risk and need assessments when appropriate and report any potential risk and safeguarding issues to ensure staff, service users and children are protected.
· To work within professional boundaries maintaining safety and appropriate confidentiality at all times.
· To contribute to organisational initiatives as required.
· To demonstrate commitment to Lifeline’s statements of Mission, Vision and Values and strategy, ensuring that they inform, and are embedded within, service delivery and practice.
· To read and comply with all published Lifeline policies and procedures, at the start of your employment and again whenever they are added to or changed, as available on the Lifeline staff website.
· To work flexibly to undertake such other reasonable duties and responsibilities, at any location within reasonable daily travel from your main place of work.
To carry out responsibilities with clear regard to Lifeline’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and other relevant employee focused policies and procedures.
MISCELLANEOUS
· To carry out duties in compliance with the policies and procedures of Lifeline.
· The post holder is responsible for maintaining high standards of care and should inform
· the company of any matters external to the post holder, which may adversely affect the
· quality of services provided.
· To co-operate with the management team as far as is necessary to enable the
· responsibility placed upon the service under the Health and Safety at Work Act to be
· performed.
· To communicate, liaise and co-operate with the various departments of Lifeline in matters
· affecting the work of the project.
· It is the duty of the post holder not to act in a prejudicial or discriminatory manner towards
· service users or employees and to be aware of the Company’s Equal Opportunities policy.
· The post holder must inform the company of any matter concerning him/herself, which
· might impair his/her ability to perform the duties outlined. This includes matters which
· might adversely affect either the post holder’s or the Company’s reputation.
· To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be
· determined by the post holder’s Line Manager from time to time in consultation with the
· post holder.

SPAR Apprentice
All criteria are Essential unless otherwise indicated
Experience (through paid or voluntary work)
· Personal experience of alcohol/substance misuse services and recovery
· Experience of providing one-to-one support to others
Knowledge
· Some understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drug misuse in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
· An understanding/awareness of current national policies on substance misuse and the strategies that influence the priorities of treatment services.
· Some knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to substance misusers
· A knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice.
· An understanding of peer led models of recovery, and the role of the community in supporting recovery.
Education and Training
· Ability to work towards an apprenticeship qualification
Skills and abilities
· The ability to quickly establish rapport with service users and to use assertive techniques to engage them in treatment.
· Ability to organise and work with others as part of a wider recovery team.
· Ability to maintain accurate and detailed case records within given deadlines, where required.
· Ability to use data management systems for the effective recording of performance and service user data.
· Flexibility of approach to problem solving and goal achievement that demonstrates an ability to use a range of treatment and recovery-enhancing resources.
· Commitment to working collaboratively with co-workers, colleagues in other agencies, and external services to facilitate positive recovery outcomes for service users.
· Commitment to sharing knowledge, expertise and learning with colleagues (co-workers, volunteers, other professionals) in order to improve standards of practice within the service and the wider treatment environment.
· Commitment to continuous improvement in professional competence and skills in order to provide a high standard of recovery-focused care to service users.
