Marymount Middle School Dress Code (Grades 6-8)
The Middle School Dress Code promotes neat, modestly attired, and well-groomed students. It also minimizes the distractions and pressures of logos and brands. All clothing listed is solid-colored and plain, not laced, fringed, cropped, or slit. It must fit appropriately. Logos can be no larger than a credit card.
Shorts: White, navy blue (not denim), black, tan (corduroy or twill) walking shorts (no shorter than mid-thigh and no oversized shorts); Marymount P.E. shorts are not dress code shorts, and are appropriate ONLY for P.E. classes.
Pants: White, navy blue (not denim), black, tan (twill, corduroy, or cotton; and no cargo) pants (navy pants are required for boys on Liturgy Dress days).
Skirts: White, navy blue (not denim), black, tan, or Marymount plaid skirts, of modest length, with no slits or fringe (a navy skirt is required for Liturgy Dress days).
Shirts: White, navy blue, red, cardinal red, ash gray, or black polo shirts with collar; Marymount logo, plain, or other logo no larger than a credit card (shirts must be tucked on Liturgy Dress days). Any layered shirts must be plain in the dress code colors.
Turtlenecks: White, navy blue, red, or black
Shoes: Closed shoes, securely laced and suitable for P.E.
Sweaters: Solid white, navy blue, red, cardinal red, ash gray, or black V-neck or cardigan sweater with a logo no larger than a credit card. Sweaters must be full length and worn over the appropriate polo shirt with collar.
Sweatshirts: Solid white, navy blue, red, cardinal red, ash gray, or black sweatshirts with a logo no larger than a credit card. Sweatshirts must be worn over the appropriate polo shirt with collar. Marymount navy blue or ash gray sweatshirt (school logo optional). CIMI sweatshirts may be worn.
Jackets: Students may wear any type of parka, coat, or jacket to school, but not in the classroom. Exceptions will be made on very cold days. Navy fleece jackets are available for purchase through Dennis Uniform.
Hats: Hats may not be worn except outdoors, brim forward.
P.E. Uniform: The Marymount P.E. shorts (often called Marymount M’s) and Marymount navy blue t-shirt; Marymount navy blue or ash gray sweatshirt (school logo optional) and navy blue or ash gray sweatpants, not yoga or workout pants. Marymount P.E. shirts and shorts are available for purchase in the Lower School Office. Uniforms must be worn appropriately. For example, shorts are to be worn at the waist. Marymount P.E. shorts are not Middle School dress code shorts and should not be worn to school in the morning. A one-piece, modest swimsuit is required in the pool area; swimsuits may not be worn outside of the pool area. Shoes must be worn outside of the pool area at all times. Students may not be allowed to participate unless they are in complete uniform. Note that the letter grade a student receives for each P.E. class is linked to meeting the P.E. uniform requirements.
After-School Sports Uniform: Acceptable in P.E. on the days of games only.
Free Dress: There are specific “Free Dress” days scheduled when the code is relaxed. On “Free Dress” days and during certain school trips and sports events, students must adhere to the following guidelines:
• Clothing must be clean, tidy, and in good repair.
• Revealing clothing is prohibited. No bare midriffs or backs, low cut or sheer tops.
• Tank tops with spaghetti straps are not allowed and undergarments must not show.
• T-shirts with offensive printing are not allowed.
• Hats or visors are only permitted outside of the classroom.
• Dresses, skirts, and shorts may be no more than six inches above the knee.
• Closed toed shoes are required on campus at all times.
• Students who have previously violated the dress code may lose the privilege of “Free Dress” days.
