INTRODUCTION

(5 MIN)

1.  GAIN ATTENTION. Failure to properly don and adjust the SOV3-HH, MJ-MSS could possibly result in serious injury or death.

2.  OVERVIEW. Good Morning, my name is ______. Over the next hour you will learn the proper way to don and adjust the MPPS. You will also learn the proper way to attach combat and oxygen equipment.

3.  LEARNING OBJECTIVES.

A. TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE(S):

(1)  Given a CPS Military Solo System and combat equipment, prepare the CPS Military Solo System for parachuting operations per the reference.

B. ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE(S):

(1)  Properly don and adjust a CPS Military Solo System.

(2)  Properly attach combat equipment to a CPS Military Solo System.

4.  METHOD/MEDIA. This class will be taught using the demonstration/lecture method with the use of a CPS Military Solo System, combat equipment and a Power Point Presentation.

5.  EVALUATION. You will be evaluated on this lesson during the practical application portion at the end of this class, and throughout the course when you prepare your equipment for every Jump Master Personnel inspection.

TRANSITION: Are there any questions about what we are going to talk about? If not, let’s look at the proper way to don and adjust a CPS Military Solo System.

BODY

(50 MIN)

NOTE: Some general notes before beginning the donning and adjusting procedures:

a.  When adjusting a CPS Military Solo System for an operation, ensure you have on all the equipment that you will be wearing during the operation.

b.  Use your unit SOP for floatation equipment if required.

c.  Always give your parachute an inspection.

d.  Have your kit bag folded and attached to a CPS Military Solo System.

NOTE: Donning and adjusting a CPS Military Solo System can be accomplished by one jumper. However, during this course you will use the buddy system.

INSTRUCTOR NOTE: ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR POINTS OUT TO THE CLASS THE (8) POINTS OF ADJUSTMENT AS THE PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR TALKS ABOUT THEM.

1. Points of Adjustment: A CPS Military Solo System has eight (8) points of adjustment.

A. The chest strap.

B. Two main lift webs (right and left side).

C. Two horizontal adjustment straps (right and left sides).

D. Waistband.

E. Leg straps (right and left sides).

TRANSITION: Are there any questions about the (8) points of adjustment? If not let’s talk about proper donning and fitting.

2. Proper Donning and Adjusting of a CPS Military Solo System:

A. Step 1: Loosen all eight points of adjustment.

B. Step 2: The assistant holds the CPS Military Solo System so that the jumper may don the CPS Military Solo System while standing up.

C. Step 3: The jumper loosely secures the chest strap through the chest strap friction adapter.

D. Step 4: The jumper bends forward at the waist until the upper body is parallel to the deck and assistant places the container as high up on the back as possible or so that the carrying handle rests at the base of the jumper’s neck.

E. Step 5: The assistant hands the leg straps to the jumper one at a time to ensure there are no twists. The jumper then connects the V-Ring to the quick snap. Once both legs straps have been attached, the jumper tightens the leg straps until the padding on the leg straps rests on the inner portion of the jumper’s thigh.

F. Step 6: The jumper stands up straight. The stitching block where the leg straps and main lift web meet should rest on top of the jumper’s hipbone. The jumper then pulls down on the main lift web adjusting straps in one to two inch adjustments until the middle of the base rings rest in the hollow of the shoulder. To make the adjustments easier, the jumper should bend at the waist and place the container as high as possible on the back while tightening the main lift web adjusting straps.

G. Step 7: Attachment of the waistband. The waistband should be tightened so that the container does not shift when the jumper moves from side to side. The kit bag handles should be placed on the left side with the waistband running through both handles. The waistband will be routed over all accessory pouches and weapons.

H. Step 8: The jumper grasps both horizontal adjustment straps and pulls them as tight as possible while still bending over at the waist.

I. Step 9: Once all points of adjustment have been properly made, the excess webbing is stowed in the excess webbing slack retainer or a heavy-duty retainer band. All excess webbing will be rolled inboard except the main lift webs, which will be rolled outboard.

TRANSITION: Are there any questions about donning and adjusting a CPS Military Solo System? Now let’s talk about attaching the combat equipment.

3. Properly attach combat equipment to the CPS Military Solo System:

A. Combat equipment will be worn front mounted.

(1)  The lowering line will attached to the right equipment Ring.

(2)  The jumper will use an 8 foot lowering line for ram air parachutes.

(3)  Lightweight retainer bands will be replaced with heavyweight retainer bands.

(4)  Double retainer bands around lowering line.

(5)  Heavy duty retainer band will be doubled over the quick ejector snap of the lowering line.

INSTRUCTOR NOTE: IF ANYONE NEEDS A REFRESHER ON THE RIGGING OF COMBAT EQUIPMNET, UPON COMPLETION OF THIS PERIOD OF INSTRUCTION. ONE OF THE INSTRUCTORS WILL CONDUCT A DEMONSTRATION.

B. Before leaving the paraloft, all rucksacks will be inspected by a jumpmaster.

Normally combat equipment will be carried to the aircraft and placed under your seat or on the deck in front of you.

C. When instructed to attach equipment, stand up and place the ruck on the seat. Stand in front of it facing outboard. Attach the HPT lowering line to the right ring. Route the leg straps around your legs from inside to out and attach them to the Fastex buckle.

D. You will then attach the left and right side attaching straps and cinch them down. A JM will inspect you before you sit down. When you receive the command ‘STAND UP’, tighten the leg straps and stow the excess.

TRANSITION: Are there any questions over what we have covered in this period of instruction? If not, here are a few for you.

Question: How many points of adjustment are there on a CPS Military Solo System?

Answer: There are (8) points of adjustment.

Question: Which way do you roll the excess on all straps to be stowed?

Answer: All are rolled inboard and stowed except the main lift webs they are rolled outboard and stowed.

SUMMARY:

(5 MIN)

We have discussed donning and adjusting of a CPS Military Solo System, attaching oxygen, and combat equipment. If there are no more questions, that concludes this period of instruction.
