THE FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM, a call to fourteen days of prayer, education, and action for religious freedom in the United States and abroad, is underway (from June 21 to July 4). This year’s theme for the Fortnight for Freedom is: Witnesses to Freedom, as we celebrate many great martyrs of the church who stood for their faith in the public square, in a time when our own religious freedom is being challenged on several fronts. INQUIRY SESSION for men who may have an interest in the ministry of Permanent Deacon will be held this fall. If you are a man between the ages of 31 and 59 and would like to know more about the process to become a Permanent Deacon you can explore the official diocesan website at http://toledodiocese.org/page/delegate-for-permanent-deacons or contact Deacon Doyle ( or 419-890-8533). The ordination date for the 22 men currently in formation will be in September 2017 while the next formation program, which begins with the inquiry session this fall, will culminate with ordination in September 2021.

TOLEDO DIOCESAN COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN – Save The Date! The TDCCW will host their annual conference on Saturday, September 24, at Saint Alphonsus Parish, Peru. Pre-conference dinner will be held on Friday, September 23 at the parish. The theme of the conference is “Be Merciful, As Your Father is Merciful” (Luke 6:36). Father Ron Cameron, CPM, Mission Director, Fathers of Mercy, will be the conference speaker. Pat Oedy-Murray will also present. All women of the Diocese of Toledo are invited. Registration details will be published in August.

The individual must be a practicing Catholic who will be the religious leader of the school, will ensure the teaching of religion, and model Catholic values. The principal is responsible for organizing, administering, and evaluating the instructional program of the school. Minimum five years classroom teaching experience. JOIN US AT THE BASILICA AND NATIONAL SHRINE of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey with Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv. on Sunday, July 3, for the celebration of the Year of Mercy. Confessions 11 am – noon with a Mass at noon. Bishop John will also bless the newly installed elevator following Mass. Devotions will be at 2:30 pm with an outdoor rosary procession.

FOOD PANTRY. DURING THE MONTH of June, St. Nicholas will be responsible for stocking the Ottawa Food Pantry. Drop off any items at St. Nicholas Church. Holy Family Church will be responsible during the month of July.

Suggested items include but are not limited to: Pasta, boxed dinner items, chicken or beef broth, spaghetti sauce. Canned meats, soup, all canned vegetables and fruit. Baking and cooking items (flour, sugar, brown sugar, shortening, oil, spices. Cake mix, frosting, pie filling, instant pudding/jello. Peanut butter, jelly, ketchup salad dressing, cereal, pop tarts, oatmeal, pancake mix & syrup, cookies, crackers, snack items, any gluten free products, etc. Also Cleaning supplies, laundry products, paper products, personal hygiene items.

Please drop items off in the box in the back of St. Nicholas Church. Monetary donations are welcome and can be placed in the weekend collection in a special marked envelope and the office will forward the cash donation to the Pantry. The Food Pantry will accept fresh produce on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month form 9am-2pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa. The will also accept processed deer, whole hog sausage etc. but you must contact them prior to bringing it.
