2017 FAIR WINDS MEMORIAL REGATTA

1.RULES

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017-2020, including the US Sailing Prescriptions and the class rules of the Flying Scot class, and the Sailing Instructions.

2.ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1. The Fair Winds Memorial Regatta is open to all boats of the Flying Scot class whose skippers are members of the Flying Scot Sailing Association (FSSA), and Lasers. You can join FSSA by going to or by calling (800) 445-8629.

2.2. Eligible boats may register by completing the Registration Form and mailing to the contact listed below.

2.3. Check-in and Late Registration will be held between 8:30 and 10:00 AM Saturday, September 9th

3.FEES

3.1. THIS IS A FREE REGATTA, intended to serve as a memorial to those sailors with whom we’ve enjoyed sailing, but can no longer sail with us. We ask only that participants consider making a charitable, tax-deductible donation in whatever amount you deem appropriate to the Mountain Laurel Medical Center. 100% of the proceeds of this regatta will be donated to this Center which helps the underserved in Garrett County. Please make your check payable to Mountain Laurel Medical Center (MLMC) and return it with this completed form. If you desire a receipt, a representative of the MLMC will be on site at the regatta on Saturday to write one for you. All donations are voluntary, and there is no minimum donation, but completing a registration form is mandatory for entry and scoring in the regatta. Please return your completed registration form by September 5, 2017. Late entries, to and including September 9th, will be accepted on a space-available basis.

4.RACES

4.1. The Championship, Challenger and Laser/Open Fleets will compete in up to five races.

4.2 The Masters Fleet (combined age of skipper and crew at least 120 years, with skipper at least 60 years old) will compete in up to two races, with no more than one race each day.

4.3 Laser/Open Fleet will compete in up to five races.

4.4 Novice Fleet will compete with no more than one race each day..

5.SCHEDULE

5.1. Saturday, September 9th

8:30 - 10:00 AM Check-in and Late Registration

10:30 AMSkippers’ Meeting

11:30 AMHalf-Hour Signal for Racing

Two back-to back races, followed by shore break, with one more race to follow.

5:30 PMHospitality Hour on the deck

6:30 PMDinner will be the usual DCLSA Grill

Reservations for the Grill will be handled via the DCLSA web site.

Please inform us if you are not a DCLSA member and wish to attend the Grill

We will make arrangements.

5.1. Sunday, September 10th

10:30 AM Half hour signal for first race

Other scheduled races may follow; no race will start after 1:00 PM

6.SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing instructions and the diagrams of the courses to be sailed will be available at registration and may be available on the DCYRA web site at Courses to be sailed are windward-leeward, triangle, or a combination of these. VHF radios may be carried aboard. As a courtesy, after thestarting signal, the Race Committee will attempt to hail boats OCS or those that have not complied with RRS 30.1, using VHF Channel 19. The delay of hail, the order of hail, the lack of hail or the failure of a competitor to hear a hail shall not be grounds for redress. This changes RRS 62.1(a). Any other communication on VHF shall be emergency only.

7.VENUE

Registration, meals and Skippers’ Meeting will be held at the Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association, 204 Yacht Club Road, Swanton, MD, 21561. Races will be conducted on the southern portion of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Local sailors make a limited amount of lodging available free for regatta sailors. Coordinate with the contact listed below for availability, or for local hotel/motel/campground points of contact.

8.SCORING

8.1. Will be according to the RRS A4. Each boat’s score shall be the total of her race scores with no race excluded. This modifies RRS A2.

8.2. Five races are scheduled for Championship and Challenger Fleet; two races are scheduled for Masters and Novice Fleet One race constitutes a regatta.

9.PRIZES

9.1. 1st through 3rd places in each Fleet. Prizes are specifically intended to comprise leftovers and cast-offs from previous seasons. As such, description, uniformity, quality and even hygiene cannot be guaranteed.
