Minute of the Gleniffer High School PTA meeting: Tuesday 15 November 2016, at 7.00 pm

Present: Beverly Barclay, Brian Cunningham, Claire McNeill, David Nicholls, Elinor Wade, Georgina Kent, Isla Greenshields, Isabel Cunningham, Janette Lindsay, Joyce Jose, Lindsay Clark, Lorraine Brodie, Pamela Duncan & Sarah Kergon.

1. Christmas Fayre

The Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 26 November, from 10.00am to 12 noon. Tickets will be priced at £2.00 and this includes a beverage and mince pie/shortbread. IC and LB agreed to make shortbread. (Action: Isabel and Lorraine). Tickets will be available at the door and children accompanied with an adult will gain free entry into the event

There will be 35 tables at the event and there’s a good range of stalls. (The Malawi Fundraisers and a Young Enterprise group have stalls.) Crafters will be able to access their stalls from 8.30am onwards. Some of the crafters have already paid and BB will chase up the remainder. (Action: Bev) Bev has agreed the layout with the janitor and tables will be lined up the middle of the hall. It was noted, three stall holders need plug points. The PTA will organise and run the: home baking stall, gifts stall, tombola, bottle stall for adults and a bottle stall for kids. We are looking for donations for the adult bottle stall and Bev will organise the kid’s bottle stall.

SK donated four tickets to the panto at the SECC for Wednesday 14 December. This will either be auctioned or raffled. (post meeting note: panto tickets are being raffled).Christmas music is to be played and DN to confirm if the dance groups will be able to perform.

Ideally, we’d like two people to be at each stall. If you are able to attend and haven’t been allocated a task, please can you still come along on the day and we’ll make best use of you. We’re also looking for volunteers to set up after school, on the Friday; please, advise Bev directly if you’re able to volunteer.

2. Request for Funding

Three pupils from the higher leadership group delivered a presentation on the objectives of their course; benefits to the schools and how they want to communicate to children dealing with difficult challenges. A request was submitted and approved for the purchase of a camera and a green screen and this will allow the group to continue with their filming for communications to their target market. A cheque was made payable to the school to cover the cost of the camera and the green screen and these items will be retained by the school for future year group to use

3. Bake Sale:

The next bake sale will be held on Friday 2 December. Please, kindly deliver your cakes and treats into the school before school starts. LB will arrange a float (Action: Lorraine)

4. Own Clothes Day

This event will run on the last day of term, Tuesday 20 December. Every child who comes into school wearing their own clothes and pays a pound will have their names placed into a draw. There will be three opportunities to win a prize. The prizes will be vouchers and the values will be £50.00, £30.00 and £20.00.

4. Gin Tasting Event:

This fundraiser will take place on Friday 24 March. It was agreed that we would run the event ourselves and a small working group was formed to organise the event. The event will be held in the staff room and our maximum capacity will be 60

Please can you gauge potential interest in the likelihood of others wanting to attend the event. (Action: All)

5. Tea Rota:

The original line-up still stands for tea duty on Thursday 24 November. Most items need to be replenished. The next date for tea duty: is Thursday 9 February and the names currently noted for this date are: Eleanor, Gill and Lorraine

6. Christmas night out:

The Christmas night out is planned for Friday 2 December. Saporito (High Street) has been provisionally booked for 6.30 pm. It’s a three course meal with a glass of fizz on arrival for £26.95. Please notify Gill directly if you would like to attend and a £5.00 deposit is required to secure your booking. (Action: Gill)

7. Christmas Carol Concert:

This event will run on Wednesday 14 December. Our fundraising activities will be raffling the hamper and the 50:50 draw. LB & JL will organise the hamper. (Action: Lorraine & Janette.)

8. A.0.B:

It was agreed to acknowledge Hannah’s contribution and valued support during her time in the PTA by sending her a thank-you card and gift. (Action: Bev)

A huge thank is to be conveyed to Lindsay’s mum for her wonderful handcrafted donations to be sold at the Christmas Fayre.

9. Date and time of next meeting:

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 January, in the library at 7.00 pm.
