To work directly with parents, children and their families in a non judgemental way empowering them to get the most out of the educational opportunities available

JOB SPECIFICATION

Purpose of Post

  • To work with parents/carers, children, school staff, other agencies and volunteers, to develop and maintain family support and to provide a link between the home and school in order to raise attendance, attainment and to maximise their life chances.
  • To support families experiencing exclusion with the return to school of their child.
  • To promote equality of opportunity for all pupils.
  • To ensure effective working relationships with all Service partners.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To work with and support parents/carers by facilitating parents’ meetings both within the school environment or by visiting the parents at home, to address concerns.
  1. To attend/contribute to school reviews, pastoral support meetings, network meetings,and child protection meetings if appropriate in order to provide support for the family concerned.
  1. To lead on EHA (formerly CAF) meetings and liaise with EHA helpdesk whilst working in partnership with the parents.
  1. To keep clear and concise records relating to individual work with children and families demonstrating impact of work completed and to ensure that any reports relating to child protection issues are handled in accordance with the school Safeguarding procedures.
  1. To collect data and statistics, including case studies, relating to the children and families supported on an individual or group basis. .
  1. To respond to internal referrals and agree/carry out interventions following discussion with parental Support Advisor and Inclusion Leads.
  1. To ensure effective working relationships with all outside agencies linked to the school in order to provide an efficient and effective service to children and families. If referral to another agency has been identified and established, or during school transfer, to support the parent/carer with the transition between the school and the other agency/setting and to work in partnership with other agencies where a multi-agency support plan is in place e.g. EHA.
  1. To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety within the County Council.
  1. To organise and run parental workshops to empower and enable parents to develop better routines and parenting skills which, in turn, help improve pupil achievement
  1. To undertake any other duties as directed by the Headteacher, which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description.
