A big welcome to Jane Evans who has joined the Club this month. We know everyone will make Jane feel welcome!

Club London Marathon draw

Results of the ballot for places in the 2014 London Marathon are now being sent out. If you have been unfortunate to be rejected there is still a chance for you to gain a place through the Club’s allocated places.

So if you have qualified for the draw by being a member on 1st February; and to have supported at least three races within the year for the Club by volunteering to assist the Club in three events from the Ladies’ 5k Series, Midweek League, Harlow 10, Cross Country (unless selected to run for the Club by the Team Captain); or to have assisted in two events from the previous list and to have raced once in the Midweek League or Sunday Cross Country League; you need to pass your rejection letter to me before the draw.

If you are unsure whether you have qualified for the draw, please Colin Moody and he can check.

The Club has been allocated three places for the 2014 London Marathon

The draw will be held on Thursday 24th October prior to training.

Another club record

For the third time in as many weeks, Daniel Jephcott has once again lowered the U20 club record for 5k, so that it now stands at 19.36. This was 24 seconds off the previous record and an improvement of 1.45 over the start of September. Well done Jamie!

Club personal bests

The listing of PBs run by Club members has been updated to the end of September. Please have a look at them and if there are any errors, let Colin know.

Club championship

After a month that saw two qualifying races, the Ingatestone 5 and the Pleshey Half Marathon, as well as a variety of 5k races, there have been some changes in the leadership of the ladies’ and men’s sections.

Dionne Jones has taken over the lead with 295.1 points and Janice Page has slipped back to second on 266.13. Wendy Spring has moved into third on 221.74.

The order of the leaders in the Men’s section is unchanged. Steve Murtagh still leads with 352.76, but John Tennant has narrowed the gap on 321.36 while increasing his lead over Jared Bethell on 300.12.

Sunday cross country

The cross country season starts soon. Our Sunday League dates are: Ware, 15th December (provisional); Harlow, 12th January (confirmed); Saffron Striders, 2nd February (confirmed); Bishop’s Stortford, 16th February (provisional).

Because of the building work on part of our previous course, we have to plan a new route. If you wish to be part of this, we will be holding a survey on Saturday 2nd November, starting at Mark Hall at 9am.

Using the track

Quite a few members are using the Mark Hall Academy track with a coach on Friday evenings; more than have been using it on a Wednesday. Therefore, we have asked Mark Hall to alter the Service Agreement for Club use of the track and floodlights from a Wednesday to Friday, 18.30-19.30. If this is agreed, we will let you know the start date for the change.

AGM

The date of the 2014 AGM is Thursday 16th January, starting at 20.30 in the Clubhouse. The agenda will be sent out in December, but you may submit items before this if you wish. Several Committee members have indicated that they will not be standing for re-election next year, so please consider whether you can contribute to the Club by joining the Committee.

Essex County Road Championships

With one race to go in the Grand Prix for 2013, Steve Murtagh is the clear leader in the V40 category to win the Gold Medal. John Tennant is in the Bronze Medal position in the V60 category. The Grand Prix consists of a series of six races over different distances during the course of the year, the final one being the Stebbing 10 (which is also a Club Championship race) on 10th October.

St Clare Hospice

The hospice’s 4k Santa Run will be held on 8th December, starting and finishing at Harlow Leisurezone. The Club will be aiding the event so if you are willing to help, please sign the list on the Club noticeboard.

The hospice’s annual 10k is to be held on 16th April 2014. This will be their 20th anniversary race, and is a very popular run. Once again the Club will be helping on the day, so if you’re not intending to run, please consider volunteering yourself for the day.
