Educators for Peaceful Classrooms and Communities (EPCC) Overview

EPCC is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit corporation that seeks to improve the lives of children, families and communities by providing teachers’ and other adults’with knowledge and skills to help children grow in self-confidence, develop a sense of fairness and justice, equip them with the mindset and tools for non-violent conflict resolution, awareness of the need to care for our environment, and to actively work toward creating and maintaining peaceful communities. Internships Overview

EPCC offers two one-year, part-time internships for individuals who are passionate about early childhood and elementary education and seek to increase their capability to make a difference in the lives of children and the communities they live in. The internship time and work commitments assume applicants are working adults or full time students. The internships are designed for individuals who have knowledge of and work in the field of early education who seek to deepen their knowledge and skills base, and would like to broaden the impact of their work to make the world a place we want to live in. A summary of qualifications for each of the two programs being offered this year is provided below. See the internship descriptions at the EPCC website on the “Internships” page. Stipend

In partial recognition of their commitment and effort, interns completing the program will be provided a $1,000 stipend

Internship Eligibility

General eligibility requirements for any of the internships are:

  1. General knowledge of child development, human development, or teaching young children
  2. Ability and willingness to work as a team member
  3. Willingness to commit to the full one-year internship program
  4. Willingness to travel occasionally
  5. Ability to speak and write in Spanish is helpful but not required

Training/Speaking(in addition to general requirements)

  1. Desire to increase skills in public presentation to groups and individuals.
  2. Commitment to deepening your own knowledge of peace education
  3. Desire to work with other adults to enhance their understanding of the concepts, value and tools of peace education

Helpful, but not required

  1. Completion of EPCC Level I and/or Level II core trainings and/or experience related to peace education.
  2. Experience in presenting workshops or teaching adults is helpful but not required.
  3. Experience in teaching children is helpful but not required.

Marketing and Outreach (in addition to general requirements)

  1. Familiarity with use of social media (eg. Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin).
  2. Writing skills for developing outreach materials
  3. Ability or willingness to learn to speak to groups and/or individuals.

Helpful, but not required

  1. Experience or education in marketing or public relations
  2. Experience in the area of funds development

Internship Session

Both internshipsbegin June 2017 with an orientation retreat andend in June 2018

Internship Locations

The orientation retreat will take place in Auburn, CA. There will be two or three EPCC weekend meetings including the orientation and graduation retreats during the internship year, currently planned for Grass Valley, CA. Interns will also attend the annual California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC) retreat in a location yet to be named (This conference rotates between Southern and Mid California). Assistance with Travel and lodging expenses will be provided.
