Dear member

Circulation V

This will be discussed on Friday 6th July during the joint meeting of the BDIAP/Pathological Society, in the University of Glasgow. The open meeting of the liver EQA scheme commences at 12.30, and follows the symposium on current challenges in GI pathology.See for meeting programme).

Lunch will be provided. Please return the reply slip to Anne by June 20th.

Update meeting

This years update in liver histopathology will be in Lancaster on Thursday 6th December, followed on 7thby the luminal ACP/BSG meeting organised by Nic Mapstone. Delegates will be able to register for one or both days. There is more space than last year, details of the venue (with tempting leisure facilities) are on The registration form will be available shortly from the GIEQA website, and the liver EQA website.

Web site

We are extending the liver EQA section of the website virtualpathology to include access to all the documents, forms and correspondence relevant to the scheme. Hopefully this will be done in the next couple of weeks.

National group representing liver histopathology.

Following my last letter, with request for expressions of interest in being part of this group, the liver sub-committee of the BSG Pathology Section is now set up with the following members:

Prof Stefan Hubscher (chair), Prof Alastair Burt, Dr Chris Bellamy, Dr Joe Mathew, Dr Rob Goldin, Dr Judy Wyatt (secretary), and a clinician representative to be nominated by the BASL/BSG liver section committee.

I am grateful to the volunteers. I feel we now have a legitimate group who can comment on and influence developments such as the production of RCPath documents and discussions on e.g. PbR and HRGs.

SOPs

I circulated the draft changes to these with my last email, and there have been no issues raised about them. I will now submit them to Ray MacMahon, who is the chair of the RCPath Steering Committee for interpretive pathology EQA Schemes. The only change from the circulated version is that I propose that the liver sub-committee described above can also act as the steering committee for the liver EQA scheme. A steering committee is necessary if we are to re-apply for CPA accreditation in the future.

The next scheme organisers meeting at the RCPath is due to discuss the situation with CPA accreditation – currently most schemes are not applying for re-accreditation due to the work involved in documentation, and requirement for quality management.

Questionnaire

A survey of members’ feedback is one of the requirements for CPA, and is also important to ensure the scheme continues to match the requirements of its members, and guide its future development. Many of you completed the previous questionnaire in June 2003, where 56 responses seem to represent 100% of the members at that time.

Please will you take time to complete the questionnaire attached to this email, and return it to Anne by 20th June. I will then be able to present the results to members on July 6th. It includes many of the questions in the previous questionnaire, with in addition the use of digital slides and your views about delivery of liver pathology services.

Thanks for your help with this. I hope to see you at the meeting on July 6th,

Yours sincerely,

Dr JI Wyatt

Organiser, Liver Histopathology National EQA Scheme.
