WHAT CONSTITUTES A GOOD CHURCH

1 Timothy 3:14-16

INTRODUCTION: Paul gives us three pictures of the church: (1) "house of God" (2) "church of the living God" (3) "pillar and ground of the truth." The church is the family of the living God who upholds the truth of God. We have no perfect churches on planet earth. There will be one perfect church in glory. It will be made up only of people who have been born again by God's Spirit. We shall consider some of the basic things a church must have to be a good church.

B. CONVERTED MEMBERSHIP. (John 3:3 & 5; Acts 2:47b)

C. CORRECT DOCTRINE.

1. Scripture (inspired 2 Tim. 3:16; inerrant Prov. 30:5; infallible Jn. 17:17)

2. Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 2 Tim. 3:15)

3. Sin (Rom. 3:10, 23, 5:12; Gal. 3:22)

2. Discipling of the saved. (Eph. 4:12-16; Col. 2:6-7)

III. FELLOWSHIP OF THE CHURCH

A. CORNERSTONE FOR FELLOWSHIP.

A. Salvation in Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 1:9; 1 John 1:3)

B. Sufficiency of grace. (2 Cor. 13:14; 9:8; 1 Pet. 4:10)

B. CARE WITHIN FELLOWSHIP.

1. Love one another. (John 13:34-35; Rom. 12:10, 13:8)
