DCM: District Committee Member -Sub-districts - lend support to GSRs in districts with many groups

  • Reviewed experiences with group and district inventory

Question 1: Why do you think a district would take an inventory?

  • Inventories are intended to determine if the group/district is implementing the primary purpose of Alcoholics Anonymous.
  • District Inventory is a time to pause, think and reflect on how the district/group is doing.
  • Is the District consistent with focusing on the primary purpose of AA as stated in Tradition 5?
  • Districts are busy managing their budgets, encouraging attendance and District and Area Assemblies, educating new GSRs (support/reporting to groups) and learning how to do their jobs.
  • Is the District healthy? Is GSR representation reflective of groups in the district?

Question 2: Have you ever been involved in a district inventory process?

  • Brian shared his experience with a District Inventory.
  • Time allotted – 75 minutes; roundtable format (15 minutes with 5 questions); 10 minute readback; facilitated by Area Alternate Delegate
  • Is the group willing to participate in a District Inventory?
  • Were results of the inventory implemented by the group?
  • Yes – Changes were made in the format of the meeting and agenda
  • Increased sharing time with the GSRs
  • Decreased time spent in reports
  • Increased PRAASA attendance provided with District Scholarships
  • More visiting of represented and underrepresented meeting

Question 3: Should a district inventory be done during a specific time frame (annually) or used when problems arise?

  • Suggested District Inventory be conducted in the second year of service panel when leadership has learned their roles / processes.
  • District Inventory can be raised as an issue at Steering Committee Meetings.
  • Allow a separate time away from regular business meeting for District Inventory to be completed.
  • Ask for help from the Area when implementing a District Inventory.
  • “If you do not do your own inventory, someone else will.” Bob, DCM District 12; Area 9 
