District Inventory
Tradition 5: “Each group has but one primary purpose – to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”
DCM: District Committee Member -Sub-districts - lend support to GSRs in districts with many groups
- Reviewed experiences with group and district inventory
Question 1: Why do you think a district would take an inventory?
- Inventories are intended to determine if the group/district is implementing the primary purpose of Alcoholics Anonymous.
- District Inventory is a time to pause, think and reflect on how the district/group is doing.
- Is the District consistent with focusing on the primary purpose of AA as stated in Tradition 5?
- Districts are busy managing their budgets, encouraging attendance and District and Area Assemblies, educating new GSRs (support/reporting to groups) and learning how to do their jobs.
- Is the District healthy? Is GSR representation reflective of groups in the district?
Question 2: Have you ever been involved in a district inventory process?
- Brian shared his experience with a District Inventory.
- Time allotted – 75 minutes; roundtable format (15 minutes with 5 questions); 10 minute readback; facilitated by Area Alternate Delegate
- Is the group willing to participate in a District Inventory?
- Were results of the inventory implemented by the group?
- Yes – Changes were made in the format of the meeting and agenda
- Increased sharing time with the GSRs
- Decreased time spent in reports
- Increased PRAASA attendance provided with District Scholarships
- More visiting of represented and underrepresented meeting
Question 3: Should a district inventory be done during a specific time frame (annually) or used when problems arise?
- Suggested District Inventory be conducted in the second year of service panel when leadership has learned their roles / processes.
- District Inventory can be raised as an issue at Steering Committee Meetings.
- Allow a separate time away from regular business meeting for District Inventory to be completed.
- Ask for help from the Area when implementing a District Inventory.
